i have 831, it is fairly quite, fuel efficient, I have used it to run a 7 in. circular saw, block heater and lights out in a remote shed for my 936 (not all at once). as stated above it is a little on the small side for "whole" house and would recommend looking at the 5 or 10 kw units. it...
axle washer in hub
The following maybe old news for the veterans, but for novice first timer's to hub maintenance (me) this was not obvious and took a couple of tries. When installing the axle washers it is critical the washer is fully seated (which is hard to judge) in the hub land. at least...
FYI for other 5 ton'ers - tried to replace a damaged stud on my front hub, based on what i pulled out of my front hub it appears somewhere in the trucks past a rear hub was put on the front. Mike of Big mikes did a little research and determined the bearings are the same, so they appear...
Been doing hub PM's and did not have a nice "soft" seal driver big enough for the hub axle seal. probably not the first to dream this up but --made this up out of PVC 3 in drain pipe. and you can make it long enough to easily drive the seal home with no risk of dents and can tap it in square...
Question, what is the best way to remove a damaged wheel stud? hub is already off the truck.
hit it with a BFH? (and tricks to this technique?)
press it out ?
Other?
and for future learning reference where would this be covered in which TM? I seem to only have parts and operation...
just re-pulled the driver side axel (after completing the PM) and the thrust washer is missing. so will try and find one, oshkosh is out of stock, have a request in to big mikes.
next related question - when i did the drivers side i thought i "knew" which way the inner seal was to be...
nope... sadly i didn't know to look for it. took everything neatly apart and put in the new seals and boots etc... repacked the bearings, and back together. no extra parts at the end...LOL
well now that I've done it - it will just be a pain but should go pretty quick. lug nuts will be the...
Simp5782, thanks, so it appears that was missing from my other side then. guess I need to get one and re-open the hub up and put it in.
but on this side, this copper seal seems to have bonded to part 31 (part your friend boggered up) and or to the seal behind it. not sure which, but it is...
am doing my PM's on my front hubs (M936a1) and have finished one front wheel. started to pull the inner seal on the other and broke my seal puller. then realized this side does not look like the other. it has a big copper washer - ring seal that appears to be in front of the normal inner...
tank sender
i have a m936 and you have to pull the tanks and work around the out rigger, just pull the out rigger out, about half way if i remember right, then you can slide the tank out a bit and back around the out rigger. the sender is located on the frame side of the tank, so have to pull...
I have solved my issue with a bit more searching on SS - and an old post by Floridianson - 2015 - had this link
...good link.ftp://38.106.177.129/gopettibone/for...20no.%204r.pdf
the link is a vendor manual on the spider - tells each part and what it does, and has a section on maintenance of...
simp5782 - ok did that - my battery drill will only spin the gauge to 20 mph, ran it for about 10 min, worked fine. will run the truck (once I get the front PM finished) and see if its really working or 20 is just not fast enough to get it to fail.
thanks
Floridianson --that's kind of what I though - just thought i'd ask - some of these guys have scary impressive amounts of knowledge and some pertains to these trucks...lol. my pancakes (diaphragms) are good, replaced them just abit ago... and hey I think the front one had failed -so maybe did...
not sure what goes on the upper, but on my exhaust flare junctions (the ones with the clamps like the lower left in your picture) i used a gasket material that is made for exhaust (not paper much thicker) and has a wire mesh in it, buy it in sheets (4x6 in. is what my small motor repair shop had...
Doing front axle PM on a M936A1, and found the following "little" bit of oil on the back of the brake pad, seems to be coming from the brake cylinder. no fluid on the pads face or any where in the hub area, only this little bit on the back.
I did not think they contained any fluid (or am I wrong...
yeah i had earlier cleaned all the dash grounds last time i opened the gauge panel up, replaced both the intank sensors when i first got the truck (2 yrs ago). I think i will add in a few extra ground wires while its open as you suggested. was trying per TM to figure out if the switch was...
