I did end up doing this, so I thought I would update the forum. My uncle made the spacer rings for me out of Acetal. I was concerned about the strength but it has held up fine and seems dimensionally stable under the loading that this tool sees. Gringeltaube was right about this tool being more...
Hopefully you can replace the water pump and flush the coolant and get by without anything more difficult!
If you still have the original style of head gasket, I concur with WillWagner and do not recommend putting the extended life / organic acid type coolant back in. Despite the fact that the...
I bought my M923A2 with the intent to move the van body from my M109A3 onto it. So I had a left over 5 ton cargo bed and a deuce chassis... I intend to shorten the bed to match the frame at some point but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I don't know about being a wealth of knowledge, but what I have learned, I'd be happy to share! These things are fun to build and work with, and you can make what YOU want and not just what a company thinks you should want. Having the extra interior space in a 934 body will be nice for you too...
Thanks, guys! I think you've got me headed down the right path.
The 16014 bearings I found were $22 each shipped, but after looking for 6010's from @gringeltaube 's advice I found a set of 2 of those shipped for $17, and they have the rubber seals in them. I think I'll go that route.
As far as...
Yes I did try using the bearings in 10wt oil on the spindle with the nut loose when I was repacking bearings, but it still took too much torque to turn. I figured that defeated the purpose of the whole thing.
The bearing cups that the truck uses (592A) are 6.000" OD. But that is not a common...
I'm going to attempt to make a 5 ton version of the static balancer that I've seen @peashooter and @gringeltaube make. I don't have any ball bearings laying around, so I'm going to have to buy whatever I need. Any suggestions on a ball bearing size that is small / sensitive enough to work well...
It does appear to have started as a 5 ton bed due to the taller front section, but it has been shortened. Otherwise that last section of the drop side wouldn't be shorter than the rest. Looking at the first side view, the frame ends just past the back axle, but the wheelbase is definitely longer...
It's not exactly related to the 'camper' portion of my truck, but I just finished an upgrade to the truck. A while back I decided that I wanted extra fuel capacity, so I added a tractor tank on the right hand side in place of the cargo truck toolbox. To keep from making the plumbing more...
That's the kit for an M35 or M809 cab, but it has all the parts you would need to attach the 2 passenger mounts. In an M35 cab, it uses the L bracket to hold them both near the center of the cab. The M939 mounts them both to the flat surface of the dash and doesn't use that bracket. The M939...
Just be aware that the rifle mount kits are different for a 939 than they are for the older trucks with the same cabs as the m35. The 939 mounts 1 to the driver's door and 2 to the passenger side dash. The only place I could find that has these is TNJ Murray and their price is significantly...
Yeah that kind of surprise is always fun! Thanks for the kind words. My guess on the rust is that it got there over many years of being parked outside and having humidity get pulled in through the normal vent fitting. I know it hasn't been operated in any water in 10+ years between me and the...
When I took my deuce on its first trip out of hibernation this year, I was rewarded with brakes locking up on my way back home. So after inspecting things, I found out that my master cylinder had rusty sludge in it and likely that had plugged up the compensating port in the master cylinder...
I wanted to clarify some additional information on adapting a Cummins 6BT engine to the Spicer 3053a transmission in an M35A2. This came up in another thread, so to avoid derailing that thread I started this new one. A link to the original thread is below...
Unfortunately the part number you gave me for the flywheel is for the flywheel itself without the ring gear, and there are at least 2 different ring gears that work with it. Some are 8/10 pitch, some are 10/12 pitch. So without knowing more information, I can't be sure which pitch of starter...
Sorry for my mistake, edited my post to refer to yours. That's what I get for attempting to help without being in the shop.
He will still need an adapter, and depending on his choice of flywheel and flywheel housing, potentially for a depth change and not just diameter. I am gathering parts...
What are the part numbers for your flywheel, ring gear if it is not original to the flywheel, and flywheel housing?
G has the right information on the pilot bushing. I was going off memory and mixed up the ID with the OD. You will still need something to adapt to the 306 bearing that has an ID...
