I had the same thing in a M60,
When in doubt read the manual.
Neutral saftey switch
Slam it in to gear then into neutral while holding in the starter button.
It worked for me!
It's probably too late now that you put it on already but,
Lay the Hard top on the grass and jump up and down on the dent!
It sounds silly but it works! The dent pops right out.
I also took out the ribs and straightened them out with a sheet metal pliers. New wood from Home depot.

I used the M172 in the Engineers for years to haul around D7's @24 tons.
The 34th (Construction) Engrs. in Ft, Riley got brand new D8's and were cracking the frames on the M172. They were ordered to stop using them. They then recived the nice cable drop decks trailers a couple of months later...
