Started a motor swap on a 85 M1008, need some electrical advice to get it started

Another thought to narrow down Battery drain would be to pull fuses from fuse box one at a time overnight and check for drain. To eliminate circuits may take time or take cable off each time and see if there is a noticeable spark on connection. Let me add that really anytime you are around...

Steering wheel doesn't return from either direction

I have to agree about the spring hangers Sharecropper, probably the most overlooked place for repair. I bought 10 pair of the poly, nylon, plastic, upper king pin bushings from GM 20 years ago and replace on either a new used vehicle with new lower bearing sets or after use on lifted K30's...

New M1009, stuck starter, replaced with DH relay, won't start

At least you have the gear reduction starter. Nice upgrade at the least, and saves some weight up front. Also new hardware, you can not go wrong. Be kind to your new, rebuilt starter and it will be good to you.

Started a motor swap on a 85 M1008, need some electrical advice to get it started

Hello, on your way, grounding, good clean surface on all connections, terminals, check and recheck will be rewarded. Does the truck still have the firewall pos and neg junction blocks, are they clean. The cables to the front grill, are they chafed at all, grommets in place through bulkheads...

Started a motor swap on a 85 M1008, need some electrical advice to get it started

Hello 83k30, I have had an 82 K30 6.2 since new and I believe that the spin on primary with water petcock drain on bottom and spin on secondary filters are great additions to the fuel system. I prefer Wix brand but there are others and better systems as well. In the picture I see an inline fuel...

M1008 loss of power at high end

Put on a section of clear fuel line at the return line off of the injector pump and check for air bubbles. Is there blue smoke out the exhaust? sandcobra164 has a good idea for sure, had it happen. I would like to tach my 82 civi K30 just to see what rpm I am running with 6.2, 40 over, 3.73...

Another Newbie Post - M1078 General Misc and Drive Train Conversation

Welcome and be patient. If and when I acquire one of these Trucks I will get two more for accessible parts. Read and read more, these are special trucks for a reason. Read Archives As for mobile house on wheels, and pulling a trailer, well there is equipment out in the civi market also that may...

Maybe a WC-12 saved from the scrapyard

Nice score oh I mean so sad not much to start with. I do know that I know someone that would pick up the truck if you lose interest. Old Power Wagons, REAL Military Hardware. The engine is fine as long as freezing cracks have not developed. And even if the powertrain is bad their are other...

New M1009, stuck starter, replaced with DH relay, won't start

After removing cables when incident happened did you try to connect cables back to see if starter was still engaged? Many things could happen to create problem. Starter solenoid, steering column starter switch, burnt wires going to starter, at starter, starter out off alignment. Being truck is...

Welcome FireStar from Missouri. Get settled in and as you see and FEEL the iron. You can get a better look at what and how you can use, and the cost involved. There is a thread on est. cost of just owning different MV's. Hopefully a member can post it up, and give you an idea of just the legal...

    Military Fire Trucks

Awesome thread, I still see Military Fire trucks used as Tankers or off road brush trucks. The last M715 I seen a few years ago was an auction from the Antonio Fire Dept, Antonio Missouri.

    TH400 Uphill Problems, Severe Bogging/Lugging

A lot of blue smoke, loss off power, going up hills, junk in the tank. Sometimes after being stuck and knowing that the fuel tank had umm fuel station gunk in it I would pull the primary filter, K30 Civi primary and secondary, and dump fuel into jar to check and to see how bad. I carried a 1...

    Axle swap or not

Upgrade to three quarter axels or one ton would be great for off road but not for the occasional trip into the unknown. Plenty of upgrade parts for better dependability, but try a different gear setup. Three seventy threes are a good compromise, even with larger tires. If you get off the hard...

Hello olly hondro, I like the tube doors. Did you use the stock mounting location and hinges? What about the door strikers? Thanks.

Sending unit? Gauge? Fuel needle confusion...

Excellent point porkysplace. It does often happen at connection points, splicing, and any place there is a bare wire or crack, split in the wire. Corrosion under the insulation will most certainly give a week ohm reading, but at that point it is about to fail. Heat in a wire is a sign that...
