It's a 5 door cab (two cabs and a stretch in between). They did make a couple trucks that were a factory double cab to haul boats for the navy, but not sure where they ended up.
I'm working on making a M916 into a expedition / camper vehicle. It has plenty of power with the Cummins big cam 400. I have a S-280 shelter to go on the flat bed. The M916 or M920 would be a good platform to start with if you want something this big... they make the 5 ton look small.
How hard is the steering on a M916? I have a 1980 M916 with 16's that seems like I have to put a lot of effort into turning the wheel. For example making a right or left turn at an intersection requires some muscle. The only other vehicle I have to compare it to is my M1078 which you can turn...
So this ended up being an easy fix. When I went to remove the "CAB" cartridge from the manifold I noticed it was only finger tight. Gave it a good cleaning and checked the o-rings and reinstalled to correct tightness and now no air is leaking from the manifold breather.
"CAB" cart removed...
Is it normal for air to rush out of the Hydraulic Control Manifold breather when the cab air bags are activated?
I haven't had working cab air suspension since I got the truck because the passenger side bag had a leak in it. I just replaced the passenger side air bag and set the controls on...
The white faced gauges were in the truck when I got it. The previous owner probably added them, but I've seen some trucks come out of surplus with some gauges like that, usually not all, but some that were replaced during its service.
Just wanted to post a follow up on this. Someone replied that I should make sure that the cab wasn't sitting on the engine since my cab air ride wasn't working. That is exactly what it was doing, the hose clamps on the uppermost hoses were touching the underside of the cab and made a little...
Your description of the sounds is accurate. The new style is not as loud and forceful sounding as the old model. I kept my old one as I like how it sounds and rebuild kits are inexpensive.
I don't think I've seen this mentioned before on here. Filling the driveshafts with expandable foam (instead of a cardboard tube) should help with small vibration issues, having them already mechanically sorted. The foam won't move around in the shaft like cardboard. It will deaden sounds and...
I just noticed your winch mounted under the bumper in your photo. Do you have anymore pics or info on how you mounted it. I've seen them mounted above the bumper, in front of and now yours tucked in below.
I was surprised how fast my M1078 w/ 3116 is. The turbo spools right up and you go from 10 mph to 50 mph in no time. I don't notice much lag and once the turbo spools it takes off. If I keep my foot on it the truck goes right through the gears smoothly and accelerates fast. I expected it to...
