    Transfer case shift question

You can shift from H to H lock on the “fly” as long as the wheels are not spinning. It’s only when changing ranges (H to L and L to H) that you need to stop and turn off the engine.

    Hummerholic’s 1994 Humvee Build Thread

The way you are using the cinder/cement block to lift and hold the vehicle by laying it on its side is potentionaly dangerous. Cinder/cement blocks are meant to be “laid” vertically, not horizontally and thus have little structural strength on their side. Best to use wood blocking and forget the...

Needing so tech help on potential command car acquisition and restoration

The tailgates May be the same. But I doubt anything else will interchange. The g503 site for the dodge power wagon is more active than here and you’ll get better help there. Or better yet, google Midwest military and give John a call. Or vintage power wagons. If any parts are available, they would...

    5W-40 Winter Compatibility

A properly operating glow plug system is more important than the oil for starting in winter climates. Wide open throttle is a must also.I use 15/40 rotela and have no problems starting at below 0 temps. They (diesels) don't like it,but they will start.

Anyone know the right air cleaner elbow?

It is my understanding that the body dictates which carb and air cleaner will fit. I think the carter setup required a larger firewall indent. There are only 2 elbows for the ww2 dodges. Carter and zenith. I ran into the same issue and had to switch to a zenith setup. Call John at Midwest...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Clearance lights, both front and rear, are a U.S. DOT requirement on all vehicles over x amount of inches wide. I forget the the exact number. Therefore,am general would have been required to install them on all H1 Hummers. Ever wonder why all dual wheeled 1 ton pickups have them, yet their 1 ton...

Hmmwv. Not getting fuel (after new pump)

Had a similar issue with a cucv I owned several years ago. From the very first time I started it,it took a few "cranks" to start. After a year,it seemed to be getting worse. I had always suspected a weak "lift" pump,so I decided to change it. when I pulled it off, there was NO push rod. Put a...

Anyone have experience with John Johnson Company?

I bought a 4 man top from Brenton last year. $280 shipped. Are you saying one from Johnson is half that price?

    Tires wearing out too fast

My tires were wearing out faster than I thought they should. Spent the big bucks ($65) and went to the local Chevy dealer for a 4 point alignment. I could immediately feel the difference. Rolled so much easier. Tire wear has slowed dramatically.

    Tire Age in Hmmwvs

Several years ago, major tire rebuilders/retreaders stopped accepting tires more than ten years old for retreading citing too many " catastrophic failures". For those old enough to remember,20 years ago,the highways were littered with blown heavy truck tires. Today, not so much. Also,DOT...

Oh boy fun starts here can anyone help identify?

The vin #,which is located on the side of the left front frame rail just forward of the axle, can positively identify it. Search of ww2 dodge web sites will tell what vins were assigned to what class of trucks. You can also contact the Chrysler archives and for $35, they will send you a build...
