Since this isn't an operation while under fire, you can afford the time to do it right. Send a crew out in a boat, with a depth ruler (or stick) to ascertain how deep the water is, or if the water is moving too fast. If it's higher than the bottom of the windshield on the FMTV, bring BOATS...
It IS a neat video, showing the capabilities of the truck (MTVR or FMTV, regardless they're pretty capable), what ticks me off is that the drivers ASSUME that the water is shallow enough for their trucks to go down the street without drafting water. Stupidity and ignorance is a trait that is...
Ah jarhead Privates. Without them, we'd have more money in the DoD's bank account, as we wouldn't have to spend it fixing gear that wouldn't have been destroyed by stupidity.
Hope noone drowned here. Can't say so much for that engine, though.
I'm a little worried - a semi-trailer isn't a house. A house is built and stays put. However a semi-trailer moves and hits bumps and yes, it FLEXES a little bit. I just hope after all the work you put into it, that you don't take it for a long ride one day, and end up finding boards and...
You win!
Hard to kill an army truck. We've had stories in the past about people who topped off the oil, added fresh batteries and fuel, and fired up trucks that hadn't been started for DECADES. Rust is the biggest problem for old military vehicles, their mechanicals are pretty rugged...
Welcome from the Land of Ever-Diminishing Freedom! We like Russian MVs as well, they are just as ugly as our trucks, and just as rugged too. They just go better with Vodka.
I had no idea we had a few people here with Russian wives. I might have to look into that, I've heard they are...
Those warehouse trailers are very useful if you have a farm or a lot of property. Put sides on it and haul firewood all day long behind your jeep or tractor. Great save!
Ah yes, I apologize - I forgot the #1 rule of reading threads: when in doubt, go back and read the first post. In other words, Duh.
Keep up the good work, Soni, this build is awesome!
He he, I had an HO set as a kid, too. The locomotive we have I remember was one of the later ones, a 2-10-4 Texan.
Anyways, you're doing a great job, Soni! What is the plan to "fill in" all that space that now resides where the engine hood and cab used to be?
Be advised, though we are having this rally in mid-April, for those who haven't been there before, the location is on top of a high ridge-line, and the nights there get COLD. A couple times there was light snow present at some time during the weekend. If you plan on sleeping overnight there...
This rally was founded by a couple guys out in Long Island, they are here on the site occassionally, but for an unknown reason, they haven't shown up in several years, and they won't even reply to PMs about the rally at all. I plan to ask them about it when I see them at MTA or Aberdeen rally...
Those make awesome utility trailers for offroading. I got the idea a while back of mounting a platform tent on the roof of it, I think it would be an awesome camping rig with that upgrade. Don't hack on it too much, though, you might decide later on that you really want to restore it to...
