I ask about the smoke because that means it's getting fuel. Without smoke I would be looking at the shutdown solenoid.
Anyways, a Detroit that won't run on starting fluid? Maybe NDT is on to something with the blower drive shaft. NDT, have you heard of this happening? I used to run a lot of 71...
It's an easy fix. This is one of the situations where an EZ Out is supposed to be used. Drill a hole in the middle of the bolt and use the EZ Out to unscrew the remains.
As for a starter, if you can get your hands on a real Delco-Remy 28MT, new or reman by a trusted supplier, that would be your...
In my CUCV I had a throttle shaft seal fail (normal mode of failure for DB2 pump). This let the pump drain back to the tank through the lift pump. Replacing the lift pump resolved the issue for about a year before it came back worse. The symptom was that any time the truck sat for more than 8...
As long as the heat can convect up to the cylinder head, it only needs to get a few cylinders warm to get a start. My 6.2 would start fine at 80 degrees without glow plugs. You'll get a lot of smoke until the other cylinders start firing. This may not be the best for your engine but should be ok...
Diamond Diesel sells OEM seal kits for the DB2 pumps. They're about $100 for a kit. I don't know anywhere you can get individual parts, maybe John Deere. They used a lot of DB series pumps on their engines.
I'm guessing that is for stress relief to prevent cracking between the valve seats. It isn't an uncommon feature of higher horsepower engines.
It may promote stress relief by encouraging cracking in acceptable areas. The heads on 6.2/6.5 diesels have similar relief and will typically crack in...
If you want on engine hoses that last, you'll need to use high temp rated hose such as Parker 206 or 426 or Aeroquip FC234. These hoses are great for oil and diesel fuel and do ok with hot water.
You can buy the 20 HP VFD for the 10 HP motor. You key in the motor power during the setup process. You can't set up a VFD for 20 HP and use it to drive a 1.5 HP motor.
The VFD has auxiliary outputs. You could potentially use it to switch another motor off and on but it can only provide...
It's hard to say that coolant temperature has much effect on efficiency. The cycle is nearly adiabatic so outside temps have little effect on anything. Higher coolant temps do reduce cylinder wear rates and prevent cylinder glazing. I am going to have to provide some documentation to back this...
You program the VFD to the motor so your 1.5 HP motor could be damaged if the VFD tries to run it as a 20 HP motor. The VFD also does some condition monitoring and may trip if it sees the motor circuit open as the relays change over. You could probably disable this.
Coolant recovery is surprisingly unimportant. When the system is at its hottest, the system will be full. We know this from off-road motorcycles. Of course, who wants to waste coolant finding a that perfect level.
