The oil cooler lines on my 1031 have leaked near the sampling port ( coolant overflow reservoir) since I've owned it. I have used every durometer Viton oring available, they last for a few months. Only real solution is to replace with AN fittings..I might do this after I swap head gaskets and...
Long cranking time and white smoke is definitely glow plugs. I've yet to see glow plug failure to be anything but open resistance...save the one time when the prior owner installed 24 volt glow plugs. That was easily seen as they were HMMWV plugs with the round connector. They had converted...
Exactly why I am doing small twins. Computational fluid dynamics are now used to design modern turbos so I found turbo that were made by the millions for a European engine shared between multiple manufacturers.. Ford, Mazda, Peugeot, Citroen and Cooper used it on a free spinning 1.6 liter four...
I've used this test to troubleshoot the GP relay more than once. It is a common failure point as it carries over 100 amperes and cycles at least 3 times on every cold start.
There will be a control system monitoring manifold pressure and opening the turbo vanes to keep it under 10 PSI. Both intake and exhaust manifold pressures. Drive pressure limits the GMX turbo systems. The free.floating Banks Sidewinder only benefits higher engine speeds. Both systems are...
Measuring over the Red to Orange wires should be ~24 volts except with glow plugs cycling. Red.to orange is zero when cycling.
Red is 24 volts to ground except when glow p!ugs are cycling, the voltage should be ~12 then. With GPs on, the orange should be ~12 volts to ground.
Manifolds from lightly massaged 1-1/2 Sch10 stainless (1.9" OD, 0.109" wall thicknes). This pipe will match the oval port on the exhaust. Port spacing almost perfectly matches standard tee dimensions for this pipe size. I'm burning individual flanges like HMMWV headers..
Just waiting on...
Chapter 7-3 in the -34 TM. Please read and follow the procedure.. A special tool is needed, J26889. Must be made of gold, they want over 200 dollars for them. Looks like a shop fabrication worth a buck. https://www.autotoolworld.com/Kent-Moore-J-26889-Accumlator-Piston-Compressor_p_211177.html
I would suspect the lift pump may be out. The transfer pump in the injection pump can draw 18" Hg so it can run without the cam driven lift pump. You will find out when doing a filter swap. The lift pump on my 1031 died at 32k on the odometer and it failed in the leaky mode.
If the filter...
I have an M1031 with functional generator and governor. I am designing a light turbo to mimic the Banks Sidewinder performance plus eliminate lag so it has boost from 1200 to 3600 RPM. Just 10 PSI but with modern technology. Twin turbos..twin variable geometry turbos ;). 200 to 240...
That is the pressure accumulator, it stores a quantity of hydraulic oil under pressure in case of pressure loss. As this is a key safety system, get it fixed asap. Part numbers are in the -24P TM. Overhaul instructions are in the -34P TM.
Hard start can be a sign of a leaking injector pump. If you see diesel on and underneath the injection pump, change the filter after the engine is warm and easily started.
Definitely check all 8 glow plugs. Each GP controller differs a bit so pre glow time and after glow frequency are...
The firewall resistor is a ballast resistor which divides the 24 volt output of the two batteries to 12 volts if all glow plugs are functional. Voltage output will rise when glow plugs fail. Voltage over the solenoid input (red wire) and output (orange) will be ~24 volts when engine is off...
Gaskets were purchased from Summit online, these are drop shipped from the distributor and not yet here. Got the Nylon rocker arm retainers today from them.
I got the DB2829 overhaul kit from Amazon, it is Fulfillment by Amazon and sold by Badger Diesel.
Back to work on the 1031..now a bit different. I was in a car accident and suffered nerve and tendon damage to my left arm, slow healing. But I have time to get some work done. And I have a Soldier B.
First item are head gaskets. Cooling system gets pressurized when cold so I have been...
Ordered parts for cylinder head gasket replacement. Only 36k miles on the 1031. Head gaskets are a time issue, not miles. Yes, even ordered the nylon rocker retainers. Sourced remanufactured heads if needed. These are furnace welded with hardened insert seats so they won't ever crack...
I have new spare isolated negative alternator and 24 volt starter..the wiring diagrams are nearly committed to my memory and are in the TMs.
I have a 24 volt Robo Tool electric impact wrench, a 24 volt 3kW inverter and a NATO to Anderson Power Pole adapter to run both.
I also have 25 foot...
That is the connection. It is alternating current output, roughly 14.2 volts. The frequency varies with engine speed which is how it drives certain tachometers. Dakota Digital makes a converter module to drive other types of tachometer inputs.
What I have noticed from the Chinese imports is a lot of multi level marketing..same item made in one factory is imported under several brands. Rare Electrical and DB Electrical have the exact same 27 SI isolated negative alternator..
