    Upgrade complete

Nice upgrade, but kind of miss the general overview of all the "active" threads. Bet fewer people with view certain categories because they are no longer up front, then again I was happy with the original, years ago format....

    Off Grid, alternate approach

The memory effect is taken care of by "flattening" the cells once a year or so, totally discharging them. With a proper inverter, the cells can be further discharged when used, preventing some of this effect. The potassium hydroxide may be a harmful chemical, but so is sulfuric acid and my...

    Off Grid, alternate approach

The advantages of the Nicad cells are high rate of charging, hundred or more amps if your charging system can supply it and the ability to handle deep cycle discharge without harm. In comparison, a lead acid battery will not regain full capacity after a deep discharge, some are better than...

    Off Grid, alternate approach

The Nicads are military surplus, "helicopter" batteries etc. They are made up of individual cells (BB600) and you can make up a battery bank at any suitable voltage and amp-hr capacity. 19 cells for a 24 volt system that works with the truck generator voltage for proper charging. Cost may be $10...

    Off Grid, alternate approach

Did that and the tech that I spoke with said it couldn't be done...it probably can, but that was his answer.

    Off Grid, alternate approach

With power outages popping up so often these days and so much talk about generators, I thought my solution may be of interest. It is based on the ability of NiCd cells to take on a charge at a high rate, perhaps ten times that what's normal for Lead Acid types. Going on two years now, my xm757...

More images. The engine is an LDS465-2 and the truck made by Ford, Tractor division in 1969. Less than 500 ever made all variants included and used for the Pershing 1A system in Germany.

Reviving the 83 ford with LDS 5 ton drive line

Yes, it looks like it came from an xm757 (same as m656) alright. Here are a few images of the engine. Fuel filters are different from the deuce and the primary strainer type, was mounted near the fuel tank on the frame. The turbo is not a "C".

    Flasher failures

The buzzer is a low current device and an 1N4003 (1amp/200volt) will do fine.

M818 battery switch acting up, voltmeter

Hi Patrick, yes you will have to cut it open. I have used a hack saw and keeping the cut shallow will prevent damage to the insides. I have also rebuilt a couple eliminating the PCB to simplify the unit, but also eliminating the low oil pressure protecting feature in the process. The contactors...

    Safety Wire for Zipper Boots???

It's possible that the safety wire bit is an error in the TM, that's not totally unknown you know.. Here is the PS mag article on the installation, where excess zipper simply is cut off.
