    Graves Mountain Rally August 30 - September 3, 2018

I’ll subscribe as well. Will look at schedules to see if we can make one of the May dates. Likely we can come for the 4th. Bulldogger

    Well shoot! 6-Bolt vs 4-Bolt Crank/Flywheel

I have no direct experience with the CCKW platform but I second the suggestions to redrill. A good machinist won't blink an eye at welding, heat treating, and redrilling something like that It won't necessarily be cheap, unless you know one, so be prepared to ask around and speak to a few...

Specifically, which TM's should I go over for PM Services

The operators manual, -10 and the Lube Order are a good place for PM. There isn’t really any in the repair manual -34, it’s for repairs when something goes wrong. Do the entire lube order, including open and inspects of hubs and so forth, if you’re not certain these have been done recently. If...

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

Thanks. I couldn't find a path to remove the shaft rearward on mine, though I was trying from the position of laying at about the halfway point, maybe slightly forward, so maybe I couldn't see/feel it. I have a crossmember that joins the sides of my frame located about 12" in front of my TC...

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

The prize goes to those who urged me to check the u-joints. It turns out it's a little bit of everything. The front most u-joint was in active decline, slapping back and forth maybe 15 degrees back and forth. Ready to fail. Glad we spotted it. I noticed the carrier bearing was clunky too...

    New to me Humvee

Welcome! I am partial to the gen 1 HMMWV's too, having one as my only experience with green iron. That vintage should also have another MWO for the improved parking brake. You could google that and check yours. The upgraded parking brake functions better. It was an MWO many many years ago...

M998 half door from PA/VA to SC

+1, I'm close to Belvoir and plan to go to Graves Mountain this year again in September. Long time to wait for some though, I know. BDGR

    Bendix gear

I'd agree to check that first, as it's also a very easy fix to do. I had an old straight-6 Firebird that crudded up the solenoid with annoying regularity. I got very good at removing it without disturbing the starter and taking them apart for cleaning. Just a bad location/design on that model...

    Source for 6TL Battery

I'm having good results with my Advance Auto (yes, I know) Group 31's in a HMMWV. Part of the reason I bought them is the convenience of having AA two blocks away and I know the clerks fairly well, in case I had problems. I made a desulfating charger and did all kind of other tricks and...

What does the Trans Kick down solenoid do?

This is an older thread I resurrected, so I’ll assume you’re asking me. Its a kick down solenoid type of connection for sure, only a single wire connection to the drivers side of the trans, mid way back. I’ve checked the circuit and the wire seems good and the switch works so I suspect the...

What does the Trans Kick down solenoid do?

My trans does not kick down properly, hasn't since delivery. I've checked the circuit of the exterior switch on the throttle arm, and it works fine. That switch just makes and breaks connection. Apparently I need to replace the kickdown solenoid itself. Joy, joy, it's internal and I have to...

    Aftermarket hard door windows

I've heard they are an RV window. Notice how little opening you get for air, talking or passing in/out. I recommend something different, if you can find it. Course I'm a soft door guy still. Bulldogger

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Dont feel bad. I think many of us have done something to break handles. I knocked one silly on a tree while trail riding at Graves Mountain rally one year. Fixed it about the same way. Still holding up. Bdgr

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

The idle speed seems normal, but this is my first diesel. I don’t have a tach. The clunk is towards the front. I think I’ll replace th u-joints since they could be 30+ years old anyway. And I’ll take a harder look at the carrier bearing. I seem to recall being able to wiggle the rear...

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

They looked OK, and I greased their zerks, those that had them. It occurred to me I could replace them and know they're good for sure. I don't mind doing that. Bulldogger

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

My ride sometimes clunks, sometimes doesn't. I'm not familiar with the cause of this, and wonder if it's something I can address outside of a trans rebuild. (Please don't say it's a trans rebuild, oh please.) My ride is a stock 1987 M998 with 6.2L NA and standard drivetrain. All fluids are at...

1953 “gasser” deuce build thread/ adventure

Congratulations! And now the cleanup begins.... I don't envy that mess shooting out of the cylinders. But once it's all out and wiped clean, it should rotate fine, one would hope. Bulldogger

1953 “gasser” deuce build thread/ adventure

That much Blaster should free her up. Perhaps crank bearings are stuck too? Have you put anything in the crankcase to try to help free her up? I'd try Mystery Oil there to see what it might free up. BDGR

    M998 HMMWV Rebuild/Repair Alexandria, VA

If you could come up with frames it wouldn’t be hard for me to put some skin on them. Bdgr

    M998 HMMWV Rebuild/Repair Alexandria, VA

Thanks for the compliments! I'm checking with my previous source for surplus door frames. I'll PM you once I can confirm I can get salvageable frames to start with, and we can take it from there. Bulldogger
