Maybe it just wasn't seated properly or tight enough the other way. I was missing 1 wing nut and the remaining nut was loose. That made a huge difference when I replaced it.
I also found a few holes in the fire wall. One from a missing wire grommet and the other from a torn speed cable grommet...

My 1009 was stationed in Germany and sent to Saudi Arabia to support "Storm one". It still has the original delineators with some desert-sand overspray on them.

I believe the whole SS community was wondering why you haven't posted in a while. I'm glad you and your family are on the mend and hopefully you will not have any lingering side affects.
Try not to waist time second guessing why the PO did the resistor by-pass. The resistor rarely goes bad but??? maybe he was replacing a lot of GPs and thought that would solve the problem. My glow plugs in my M1009 have being going strong for more than 10 years now. But I don't start it or drive...
It sounds as if your truck has had several modifications. Unfortunately, "unless the PO has left you a modification log" you will have to figure them out for yourself.
That's why I'm a firm believer of oem parts and repairs and not "re-designing" these trucks.
Now you will have to trace each...

You probably passed by my place on state rt 20 heading to Albany. You said your ride had a lack of power at 30-45 mph. Keep in mind, your driving a "Big Brick" and you slowed it down a bit more pushing allot of air with that 7ft plow.

Not sure about a Deuce but my M1008 and M1009 are both registered Historic in NY and registered as passenger vehicles. No issues that I recall during the registration process
