i always figured if i had a stuck glow plug that i couldn't coax out i would just abandon the plugs and install a thermostart flame starter and use one of the glow plug wires to activate it. i have some in other equipment and they work like a charm.
it might be stuck and it might not be stuck. if the last owner used anti seize on the threads it will come right out, just gently give it a try first and if it is tight just get it to wiggle a little and apply penetrating oil and wiggle some more. take your time. when you put in the new one apply...
in the winter months it would be used almost daily. in the summer probably twice a week on average. if it had a PTO i might be tempted to mow with it but i have a tractor for that. i would have to figure out how to control the rear three point from the cab, maybe a remote divert valve with remote...
Thanks. as for speed, my tractor is good for 25 mph but without suspension on rough roads 15 mph is top speed at best and that requires a lot of shifting and pitching and rolling. if i could get 35 on smooth roads and 25 on regular dirt roads i would be pleased. what i mean buy rough ride is i...
I have been considering a unimog for use on my ranch. i now use a 100 hp New Holland tractor as a chore tractor to tote large round bales of hay,mow and spray pastures apply fertilizer etc. i wouldn't get rid of the tractor but would use the unimog to diversify its duty some. mainly need a high...
Welcome Tem! there is a lot of good info here, especially on the MEP 002A and Mep 003A. that HZ meter takes a lot of abuse from vibration. i would always confirm the HZ with either a kil o watt meter or a good multi meter. it isn't uncommon for the vibration dampeners on the back of the control...
i run my whole ranch on an 002A. most i have run it at one time was 32 days continuous. 5K is only 5K but continuous and can load much more intermittently. you will be surprised i think.
for a cheap alternative you could install a thermostart https://www.asap-supplies.com/us/thermostart-bonfire-heater-plug-for-perkins-4108
i have some on tractors and other machines and they work flawless.
i am pretty sure mine has the ground wire from bolt to the mounting screw on plate. better wait until someone else chimes in just for sure though. one thing i do know from experience is that to start reliably in cold you will need the glow plugs also.
i use a thermal imager for many things and is really handy to find a cool cylinder on any engine. really great to find a baby calf hiding in tall grass. use it in the house to inspect breaker box and wall outlets. even find overloaded wires in walls. pretty cool tech can be had by many. mine...
most high quality diesel purchased from a regular high volume truckstop will probably not need any additives for gelling. you can ask the dealer for the MSDS or spec sheet on the fuel and that should have it's winter specs. also remember all you have to do is warm the fuel before you try to...
I dont know if we are talking about the same thing but my semi once had a diesel burning little heater that circulated water through the block to pre heat the engine. it worked ok and it took about 15 min to heat a 1693 cat to around 100 degrees before start. i wouldn't leave it on all the time...
all we ever used in the construction company was either gas or Kerosene to prevent or thaw a gelled engine. even built a fire under the bellypan of the caterpillar. a propane torch lit and held in front of the intake will start a cold diesel if it can get fuel.
my advice is. don't buy more generator than you need. i can run my whole ranch on one MEP 002a 5KW while my moms house alone requires an MEP 003a 10KW. buying to much generator just wastes fuel and is hard on the generator itself.
Thanks. i didn't know what an SMR code was but can see how useful it is. sometimes the military manuals are a little difficult for me to understand at first but persistence pays off.
