How do i make this crane work what pto?

Nice find! I'd go for a transfer PTO like you'll find described in the TMs for the M49 or M50 trucks. They will show the linkages and you will know what to look for.

    MEP018 Field Flash question

Thanks for taking time to respond! Alright, so I rang out the selector switch according to fig 7-4 (TM 5-6115-275-14). On the chart for 120/240V 1 Ph position, only 3 out of 11 settings were correct! Spent all day yesterday removing the switch and proceeded to hardwire the settings using...

    MEP018 Field Flash question

Nothing was touched on the generator when the engine was worked on. The control box was removed for access at which time I decided to "excercise" the selector switch by turning the knob a number of times in both directions. The switch has never felt "good". During last year's 25 hours or so of...

    MEP018 Field Flash question

Hoping that there is an obvious answer to this; why would the engine bog down to a point of stalling when the field flash switch is toggled? Holding the switch for just a second or so is all it takes. 1) I'm not happy with the phase/voltage selector switch action, but it seems to work although...

    4A084 compression test

Got the engine put back together a couple of days ago and it now starts and runs beautifully. I did replace the fuel pump (used the one from the spare engine) and cleaned the carb one more time as well as getting a missing clip for the automatic choke from that spare engine. Fuel consumption is...

    BatteryMinder Hookup

My recommendation would be to have a switch in the hook-up so that it's not connected when the engine is cranked. A poor battery connection will generate big electrical spikes and most electronic gear can't tolerate those. I have "blown" one Chargetek 500 battery maintainer due to a loose...

    XM791 Recoveries

Bob, I believe that the top line is separate from the other ones and reads "Driver will not smoke". Image below shows slightly different door marking regarding smoking.

    XM791 Recoveries

Thanks for posting Bob! From the info I can dig up, the 56th FA was headquartered in Schwäbisch Gemünd, Germany. Looks like the truck (both?) was returned from Europe, in contrast, mine came from the FA school, Ft Sill, OK. If I may advise you, save everything and I mean every little thing...

    XM791 Recoveries

The three variants were all made by Ford and delivered to the Army during 1969. About 300 ea of the m656 cargo version, 180ea of the xm757 and about 8 ea of the xm791. All used for the Pershing 1A system in Germany from 1969 to about 1985, when the Pershing 2 was introduced. It was heavier and...

    XM791 Recoveries

Right Kenny...images from the TM: It's going to be virtually impossible to restore an xm791 with the starting point he has unless a substitute body is used. There were only 7 or 8 made total, according to the info I have. Edit: A similar quantity without winch was also delivered for a grand...

    XM791 Recoveries

You are welcome Bob. Glad you got them home okay. Pretty obvious (IMHO anyway) that a previous owner stripped all alluminum for scrap, saving the cab to make it possible to sell the remains. Will be an interestiong project for you, wish I was a bit closer, geographically speaking...

    4A084 compression test

Thanks liftman, I improvised and made a "spring compressor" from a piece of angle iron (the rocker arm "pin" comes from a damaged cylinder). This works for me since I only needed access to the head bolt. I couldn't find a reasonably priced ring compressor, so the larger (longer) one I already...

I need a special purpose relay, but which one?

That relay will do just fine (a starter relay too with the proper rating, for that matter). Add a diode as shown in the attached images to "kill" the inductive kick and protect the switch/circuitry energizing it.

    Chains vs. Singles

Never air down when using chains, the tires may get damaged. To install the six 1100-20 tire chains on the deuce takes me from 20 to 30 minutes.
