Used the tester today to verify "goodness" of solder connections to a power connector. The LVCT has a carbon pile load resistor, which was hooked up to run up to 50 amps, in this case, through the connector pins. A 12-volt battery was used as a source. The connector is circled in the image and...
Have been running chains on my single 1100 set-up without interference for years, with duals there shouldn't be much of a difference. Chains don't actually add that much to the diameter. At the very least, a single type chain can be installed on the outside tires.
Patrick (OPCOM) ran dual 1100s...
"Rebuilt" it one more time with cleaned up original parts except for the O-ring on the center pin, so that may be the only question mark, used a best fit O-ring from NAPA.
Engine started and ran fine for some 20 hours last Fall, but didn't want to start and run at all after a temp dip into the...
Nice install! Now get the MX-7777 to add some protection.
Image below from the December 2004 MVM article (couldn't locate the original), but all fits behind the companion seat and headsets were hung from above and behind to be out of the way when not used.
Slow going here, ever since being semi-retired after the cross country trip a few years ago, money has been scarce, spending perhaps $50-100/month on the hobby.
But, I'm only 66, so lots of time to get back on the road.
Appreciate the companionship that the site offers and visitors (grunts) are...
A very good point, there were specs of aluminum in the intake manifold adjacent to this cylinder, which I noted with some concern when it was taken off last year for some magneto work.
Okay, I'll take another look at the procedure, in any case, something will have to be done.
The really low compression reading is for the cylinder, where a previous owner installed a threaded insert for the spark plug. The original threads must have been damaged and this brass insert installed...
Well guys, normal atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi, so the pressure reading on the gauge is simply divided by 14.7 for the ratio. A ratio of 4.5 is derived from a pressure of 66 psi (from the gauge reading) divided by 14.7 and so on.
Checked the compression ratio on the 10KW genset engine this morning and measured 4.5:1 on both "instrument panel side" cylinders, will check the others later, but at 4.5:1, it may explain why the engine is hard to start...
According to the references I have, it's supposed to be 6.8:1.
Stuart, to make it fool proof, install a switch to turn it on/off, like any electronic device, it should not be on while starting or shutting down the truck engine. Protecting against "load dumps" from bad battery connections, for example, is expensiive and most likely left out in the design...
Amen to that...
A couple of images from way back and because of the "after fording maintenance", it will be a while before I do it again.
The biggest problem wasn't even related to the average deuce, the cap of the hydraulic tank was loose and let water into it...a PITA to get rid of...
Thanks for posting! One of many interesting vehicles from the sixties. Love to see the details.
For some APG clips, see Vintage Video #VHS151 "Study in Vehicle Mobility".
Should be a few PS Magazine notes also (see link in my sig).
Welcome to the site!
PM sent...
Edit: Added image of control box wiring. Note the pencilled in correction, the "HI" mode is disabled during the "START" operation.
If it's anything like my 5-ton, the power is supplied via #27 from the master switch to the selector switch for either left (#77) or right (#78) tank fuel pump. #79 is the ground return from the tank(s).
