All I know about the RUC numbers on the doors is that they will tell you who owns a truck if you know how to read them. One of the guys on here can read them, but it is apparently not just a simple x=y thing! I suspect the first number is the division the vehicle belongs to (1,2,3 for active...
383 actually refers to the green/black/brown camo pattern (also referred to as 'woodland'). The paint codes are green 34094, brown 30051, and you can use any flat black. Rapco or any of the other military paint sellers will be able to help you get what you want.
The pattern is usually sprayed...
This one maybe? It is one of our newest LSMVPA members, works the same place I do. It is an extreeeeemely sweet former-USMC truck.
This one is from the July 4th parade, he is working on applying the full markings.
Cheers
Sorry to hear that, glad you are keeping him with us.
I was an active Marine then, the entire Corps was furious when it happened, we wanted to go over there NOW and attend to things. Those men are never forgotten and are toasted at the Marine Birthday each year. To absent friends...
As...
A caveat-
The above applies to truck-type vehicles. Once you start getting into armour, etc. the markings are the same, and the above generally applies, but the markings can wander around a bit more.
On vehicles that tended to not have metal doors, or had removable doors, (unarmoured...
You're welcome, and Semper Fi to your dad from another old Jarhead!
On the USMC marking- the letters are too close together to be applied with a regular brass slip-together stencil, which leads me to believe that the Marines have a pre-cut stencil they use for this marking. I cut my...
This applies to 70's/80's and later USMC vehicles, in MERDC, 383 and 686 (tan) camo.
The basics are, in 2" stecils-
USMC (not U.S.M.C!) on drivers side front and rear.
USMC and vehicle ID number (always a 6-digit number, no letters) on either side of the hood, close to the rear edge...
Pic 1 is the RT-524/R-442 setup for the V100. I haven't installed it yet, so I 'borrowed' a picture of the one at Ft Snelling, I'll replace the pic later when mine is in. It is attached to a 4-position VIC-1.
The other radios are Clansman gear I have, namely PRC-349, -350, -351 and -352. The...
I had been looking around for some fire extinguishers that would work in the V. I had some functional new ones in there, loose under the seats, and an original, but expended, 1972 dated bottle in the rear wheel well bracket for show.
What I wanted was something that looked right, would fit in...
To those who have restored a vehicle (or other item) this is already known, but those who haven't done it might be surprised how much labour goes into tidying a fairly small original piece.
In this case, I illustrate with the first aid kit and bracket. The bracket was saved (with permission)...
It is so very useful to have advice from folks who have experience with a certain type of vehicle. In this case, the "slop" in the shifter really didn't seem that significant, and it is surprising that it is what caused so much difficulty. But given the sheer length of the entire shift setup...
Yessir. The problem with taking so long to rebuild the thing is that stuff that was new when it went in sat around unmoving for a couple of years, and we know what that does... As soon as you start driving it, things begin to fail. :-x
The good thing is it is not tough to troubleshoot, and...
Hey Mark, can I put the V in your air conditioned shop???
In truth, this 50 days straight of 104+ temperatures has significantly slowed my progress on the V. Being a heat weenie, I can only manage a couple of hours before my g/f is dragging me off to an air conditioned space. She...
I am slowly adding the interior detail parts to the V. Where I can, I like to clean up an old part and re-use that rather than buy new ones.
When I visited Gerald/WGTactical some time back, he was kind enough to give me some parts from his V to use in mine. Two of those items were the holders...
With B3-3T's advice that there needs to be no play in the shifter bell crank, I finally had an opportunity to do something about that.
I had checked mine, found it sloppy, and on taking things apart found that the nylon bushings had returned to nature, as in there were little tiny pieces of...

Very nice work indeed!
I notice that your V's and most others I see have the rear intercom box mounted on the back of the wheel well. In mine, the mount was actually on the rear hull wall, have you seen any others like that?
Cheers
