    We need a unified voice

I just joined the IN MVPA. As far as they know, I'm their first member with a HMMWV....they're all very interested in seeing a newer MV alongside them, able to hit the streets. As soon as I become familiar with them, I'm going to see if I can rally their support to get HMMWVs protected in...

    HF Radios for HMMWV

It's really hard to decide what I need until I get hands-on with one and see what I can and can't use. I think I've got a fairly good deal on a PRC-104 if the seller still has it available. I'm really wanting one with the RT-1444 or RT-1209A type units that has remote control, because I really...

1989 am general humvee need advice

I agree with this. The M1123 is the way to go for the highest quality HMMWV commonly available with the best paperwork. Even still, we have one member on here that's have a challenge with one in Virginia. So it's not perfect...

    Euc approved!

What a world we live in today...being able to buy a HMMWV and pick it up three weeks later.

    1994 M998A1, Rebuild in Indiana

Updates! The biggest and most important update: the HMMWV starts and runs! In terms of major components, what was required to make it run was a new starter (was missing), an S3 (was missing), and an alternator (should have been missing-was broken terribly and not even bolted on). For general...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

A neighbor that me and my roommate frequently help out stopped by to talk about the HMMWV while I was working on it a couple weeks ago. He wouldn't leave without giving me $10 to "go buy pizza...and give me a ride when it's done." There might be something to that crowd-funding thing...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Wallet's already empty. I put down a self-issued spending freeze to let the accounts catch back up, but somehow, I still just spent $50 at the parts store getting "little things I need" which did lead to last night's success. Next I'm looking at mounting hardware to bolt the transmission up...

    Couple of ?

Whenever I get a stubborn one, I'll grab a small flat head screw driver and use it to carefully slide around the inside of the boot. That gets the rubber separated and helps take back just a little bit of that friction holding the connectors together. Don't pry, as you might tear the boot or...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Success! Carl lives! Just as I had hoped, charging the battery overnight was the last thing I needed to start. For good measure, I tidied up and installed that +28V terminal so that the alternator wasn't floating, even if it was only going to run for a few seconds...a final look over showed...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Beat myself to death yesterday getting things together. 99% finished the new 200A alternator install-I'm just short the bolt I need to connect the main 24V cable to the alternator. Thanks to a Niehoff doc I found, I see it's a 3/8-16 bolt, so that should be a quick part to source on my way...

    Living with a HMMWV

I've got to add that you're living the same dream as me. Mine's still in the non-stop wrenching phase to get it going, but it's closer and closer every day. Mine's pretty much going to be driven every time I'm going out to do something enjoyable, or requiring hauling... My little 32 MPG Dart...

    Console / Stereo Installation?

While this isn't really an install, this is what I've been using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LPZNQ3Q?psc=1 Waterproof, supports bluetooth (music, GPS, calling), has a suction cup to stick right to the glass, is removable... It's a pretty good-to-go setup for what I need! Basically $10 and...

    Starter removal

I, too, had this issue when installing my starter (was delivered without one). I had to remove the large ground strap that goes from the back to the side of the alternator. With that out, it granted just enough clearance for the starter to twist and drop through....but beware...it's an...

HMMWV 200 AMP Alternator and other question about roll bar

I literally just did this today, but without a hoist...but the entire time, I was thinking "Where's my *** ***** ********** piece of **** hoist when you need one!?" So, let me serve as proof that you can do it all without, but it wasn't fun. Not even a little. Now as for those instructions...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Busy day today... Straightened out all of the hinges, replaced all missing carriage bolts for the seat boards and tightened the rest, then installed six brand new clevis pins for my troop seats (all were gone when delivered...but later found as swollen, rusty pulps behind the rear seats). It's...

I'm with you. There are a few too many states right now pushing restrictions.

    Link to latest maintenance TM

I spotted this in another thread that will probably help, despite not being the full TM: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?163124-TB-9-2320-335-13-amp-P-M1151A1-M1152A1-M1165A1-Field-maintenance-and-parts&p=1959151#post1959151 For some reason, this was in the Trailer TM section...I...

Good / Bad Comments About HMMWV's??

I'm normally the guy rolling my eyes at all of the armchair lawyers and guys filming videos of giving police as difficult of a time as possible during a would-be ordinary traffic stop; however, I really would have resisted on this one. Unless you gave him real probable cause on something that...

    Soft Top ?

Not easily. If you have the skills and tools to properly modify the bulkhead like that, you probably have the skills and tools to just make a new one from sheet metal. The 4 man bulkhead isn't needed and I've seen them for under $200 on the auction site if you need it for your use. I'm sure...

    Identify This HMMWV's Duty?

Right you are. That "middle hole" I had pointed out earlier is for-sure supposed to be a tie-down point. It's in the valley and it's in-line with other tie-downs. So with that other bit in mind, it's looking more like Gunzy was right: I saw the TM sections that show the rear radio rack and...
