Thanks for posting those additional pictures. I was thinking that it had to be bolted to that crossmember, or it would allow the hitch to rock forward every time the brakes were applied. I really like the way that other hitch that was posted about a while ago had the two struts that went forward...
I'm planning on upgrading to either a dual-output alternator, or dual alternators. In either case, I don't think that's much of a problem. Fan belt tension is a bigger concern. Don't laugh, but eventually I'll get around to designing/mounting some kind of linear actuator, so I can loosen the...
I've spent a lot of time thinking about this, and I agree with you. The advice I've gotten here has saved me some headaches, I'm sure.
As of right now, I'm planning on configuring the fuel system/s pretty much exactly like you're suggesting. The only thing is, there are a couple of things that...
There's GOT to be a better way. Why not just re-shape the transmission tunnel? Cut the cab as needed to make the transmission fit, and then make a new access cover? Are you dead-set on a body-lift?
I got one of those HF hoists too. Picked up a strap-type hand-winch at the same time, but I think I'm going to use a cable-type hand-winch instead. I'm going to make a few sets of bases for it, so I can move it around to lift things. On the front bumper, up into the cabover rack and onto the...
I've already removed the stock air tanks, and I've collected a bunch more of them. I'm actually going to use them to store a few different types of fluids (gas, diesel, hydraulic fluid, etc.) and I'm going to use air pressure to move the fluids. I just picked up the material I needed to make the...
I've thought about that, and building custom tanks would allow me to make the most of the space that's available. I could design/build some VERY cool tanks, but I simply can't afford to build them right now. Too much money going into other areas of this project. If I need to, I'll just use the...
Thanks for the suggestions WM. You know what would be great, is if we could get everyone to take some basic measurements of whatever tanks they've got access to. Create sort of an index of fuel tanks with dimensions, and pics if possible (showing fill locations, pickups, mounts, etc.).
Yeah, that's a thought. Looking at the tank though, the ends appear to be crimped together. Seems like it would be a bad idea to cut that off and try to weld a new end into place. Might be better to cut a section out of the middle somewhere in between the baffles/ribs, and then weld (glue?) the...
I don't know yet. Think it's really just a matter of figuring out what kind of demands each system is going to place on the pump. Still don't know what the specs are on the pump that I've got either. Hope I got one of the 'good' pumps...
Just started another thread to see about finding some fuel tanks that that will allow me to re-mount them up a little bit higher. If I can find what I'm looking for, I'll gain 5-6" of ground clearance, and will only have to give up a little more than 5 gallons of fuel storage. That's no big deal...
I'm reconfiguring the way that everything is carried under the cab on Mah Deuce, and one of the things I'm trying to do is improve the ground clearance. With such a long wheelbase, I'm concerned about hitting/dragging/smashing the toolbox, battery box, and fuel tanks. I'm already planning on...
