LED headlight gripe of the day

I am Mr. Lucky when it comes to LED headlights. From my first set, one died almost instantly (and yes, I took great care grounding them properly). Failure mode was: low beam went out, but all LED (including the ones used by low beam) lit up nicely on high beam. I replaced with two "new" ones...

soft brakes, and some more newbie questions

Oh, that explains it! It is a STEALTH finished truck. They apply it with dirty brushes so it looks more...stealthy. With that coat, you can hear the truck, but not see it. And it leaks brake fluid to make people think it was an old Ford pickup that just passed by! Very high-tech, expensive...

    Run Flats on a3 wheels?

And what is the rationale for removing them? They look like they would make life simpler in case of a flat?

    Runaway multifuel 6/20/14

Commercially, air intake shutoff valves are available (we have them on all of our fire trucks). Probably spendy, but you never know what you can find at a good truck salvage yard. They are usually spring loaded and deploy automatically (rpm sensor) and/or with a switch. Look at these...

    just another newby saying hello

Looks good! As for the UK military Bedfords, there is one sitting for sale near where I live. Looks to be in great shape. It appears to be a rugged, no-frills military truck and they were in service in large numbers. It is about the weight class of a deuce, but a cabover and 4x4. Maybe try in...

    Wrecker Identification Help needed

Just make sure that you take video clips of the "before" (tree; showing the smashed cabin), the debris and rust - and when she starts on the first attempt! Awesome on YouTube!

    Put her to work!

Am I the only one that watches a great youTube video in his head right now, where a Deuce rips the stuck truck apart and the Deuce driver shrugs and drives off? :goodjob:

    Wrecker Identification Help needed

Yup, only pressurizing the cylinder will show for sure. If you install a ball valve at the cylinder, power the cylinder out under load and then shut the valve - if the piston lowers, it leaks internally. Or you have a visible leak at the top where the packing is. If the ball valve is open and...

    Put her to work!

Compliments on your photographer! Interesting angle.

    Wrecker Identification Help needed

The wrecker truck, new, cost far on the wrong side of 100k (and that was "then"). As many owners of used, expensive vehicles know, you can pick one up for reasonable money, but the maintenance and part replacement costs stay uncomfortably close in relation to the original purchase price.... All...

    Fuel Gauge Question

Also check the sending unit arm and float in the tank and ensure it actually moves.

    Got it Running

Good location for the LED lights!

    Unbearable heat blowing into cab

I second that, after a, thankfully stunned and dazed, hornet in my lap! I am glad the driver side window was only slightly opened, accounting for the hornet's headache.

    Queen Lola earning her keep

Unloading at a dump site; rental skid steer at my place. At $300 a day I only had it for a day!

    Queen Lola earning her keep

Preparing to pour concrete for the new shed...and backfilling for old concrete stairs and patio I dug out beside the house. I did three loads, about 3-4 tons each. Loading with the skidsteer was fun, but unloading sand and concrete chunks with the blood pressure hydraulics (me and a shovel/rake)...

When to Engage Front Wheel Drive

I was not aware of this detail. I have lockout hubs, so I never noticed, I guess.

    leaks on axles

No, they stick closed. The axle housing builds pressure, simply by becoming warm in operation, ambient temperature etc. and then gear lube is forced out through whatever gives way first - usually an axle seal.

    Can't mod the driver

Nice use of the Cdn M135 as a recovery vehicle! As far as side slopes are concerned, this thread might be useful: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?114919-M35A2-wo-w-maximum-safe-side-drive-angle

    Can't mod the driver

Amen to that. I cringe when people brag how much punishment and abuse these trucks can take, or see Deuces submerged in mud and water. What could possibly keep a Deuce healthier than milky gunk in the drive train and hubs? It is a great way to learn about the difference between having the hulk...

    importing a deuce to canada!

Same here. Been there, done that. If you need help, just ask.
