Peter, we may need to show S5. Hooked to S5-2, is wire # 242A.
That wire runs over to a panel in the left side of the control cube. This is what it looks like. Remove the wire 242A from the S5-2 and then test the CR3
Do you know how to test a diode?
I am sure that if you look in TM 9-2320-280-24P, you should be able to find part numbers for the parts you need.

2. Tight. Read the -24 TM to get smart about these things.
3. All the hardware is there. Look at the 24P...
Here are all the TM's. Its best you read the Operators TM. This is a very simple gen set to work on, but is fairly old. From the pictures, it looks in good shape. Hasn't been sitting outside for 40-50 years. You can start it without batteries, but it might wear out your arm. The carb might need...
Run it a while, check the oil level, that its not going up. That the oil doesn't smell like fuel. If its all good, drain two quarts and put two qt's of ATM in the engine and run it a half hour. Drain and change filter. That will take any crud out of the engine.
Is your oil thin? Or smell like fuel? If so, the diaphragm in the fuel pump could be bad, letting fuel into the crank case, and it will over fill the oil pan, and out it comes from the exhaust. This is a very common problem with the MEP-016B.
