Did you not read the post by wsucougar or jonesal? The lights were removed because they were not working properly, I have seen them removed and replaced with metal or even cardboard strips across the holes to cover them up.

I have done a few and have talked to the engineer at Esmet they recommend to replace the plug each time and the thimble if damaged. I replace both they are not high priced and feel better about the termination, less chance of failure.

That's the right way do it but I would suggest that if the truck is new to you that you remove the whole assembly clean the shaft, joints, everything of all old grease and repack with new synthetic grease of your choice, and new bolts with locktite. These shafts and joints are the worst...
