Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I bought a bunch of Firestone T831's, but that's definitely a better deal. I found a Canadian distributor that has (had?) a bunch of them, but I've already got these tires and shipping was a killer.
Which of the three flanges are supposed to have those washers behind them? And are they all the same thickness, or do they come in different thicknesses, like shims? Just wondering if I can pull the flanges off my sprag case and use those washers, or would changing washers between cases mess-up...
I've already modified the lifting points on my M109 box (I used those points to build a roof-rack around the perimeter of the box). Take a look at the picture in the quoted text above. I think that tubing should do a pretty good job of tying all the lift-points together and equalizing the load...
emr, your towbar legs are the same length? I think my towbar legs are mis-matched. They're obviously from two different kits. Maybe I can find someone to trade legs with?
Oh, I know those are lifting points. I just didn't understand what you were saying. And I was a little bit concerned about pulling forward (off-vertical) on those lift-points. Just don't want to stress the box.
Oh, and by the way - why is the short leg actually so much shorter than the long leg? Even when the legs are spread to the width of the shackle-mounts, the lunette-eye is off-center. Are all of the towbars like this?
I was thinking about grinding down the MWO collars on my towbar, but KsM175 directed me to this thread and that got me thinking about reversing the 'short' towbar leg. I saw the way that MarcM35A2 did it, but that would require you to switch the leg back before you could use the towbar. Is there...
Weird. I guess it's possible that I lost something, but I'm pretty sure that only the input flange had that spacer behind it. Unless maybe I got the flanges mixed-up? I just remember thinking it was strange that they didn't all have those spacers when I took the case apart. Hmmm, well I guess I...
OK, got another question: why does my front output flange slide onto the shaft further than it seems like it should? It was kinda hard to get a good picture, but I hope you can see that the flange slides onto the shaft past the splines. I'm worried that I've done something wrong. The input and...
Come on, you know that having a towbar mounted on the front bumper isn't the same thing as having a similar amount of weight somewhere closer to the middle of the truck. Maybe you guys are right though, maybe it's not that big of a deal...
How tall/long are most of the A-frame setups overall? I'd like to build an A-frame that's about as tall as a Deuce can handle (lifting something that's approaching that 3000lb weight limit).
emr, would you mind posting some pics? I'm sure that works well enough, but I'm looking for a folding A-frame. I think making simple extensions to slip between the two halves might be the best way for me to go right now. I'll only have to carry two additional sections of tubing, and I could pin...
Got my new air-shift transfer-case installed! I read about transfer-cases slipping out of high-range, so gringeltaube helped me check mine, and I replaced all the input/output seals. Just gotta torque-down the input/output flange nuts, then reinstall the linkage and tighten everything up. I...
Got those shims cleaned-up, and reinstalled all the seals & retainers. Reinstalled the transfercase before torquing the input/output shaft nut though, because the transmission jack wasn't stable enough to torque those nuts to 300-400ft/lbs! I saw the order of assembly in the manual, but I'm...
Uh, what about extending a towbar by simply inserting some appropriately sized tubes between the two halves of the towbar to lengthen it? It would be super easy to make, only requiring a couple of tubes and an extra set of pins. I'd need to rig-up some anchor-points, but that's no big deal.
