    MEP003 smokes/misses

Injector. It is probably opening later, causing heat to be wasted through exhaust instead of being turned into mechanical work. This also causes the injector to overheat. Have a professional service the injectors.

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

Deeply discharged batteries will do this. 6-8 amperes will not charge rapidly. Never operate without batteries connected.

Make a low trailer for MEP-002A

My system needs jack stands or legs when running as the pneumatic tires let it vibrate far too much. This causes the meters to bounce. The tires are sufficient "suspension" to smooth the low speed travel.

Need a standby genset what to buy ?

15 kW is a good rule of thumb for typical standby units for average homes. A MEP-003A will easily meet this even though it is 5 kW smaller. Diesel will keep much longer than gasoline as long as the container is sealed. Gasoline loses volume from evaporation, diesel not nearly as rapidly.

Can anyone identify this power source plug adapter...?

Ok, got my Allied catalog out. Measure the round, threaded connector. If 1-3/4" OD by 18 threads per inch, it is a size 28 which can be either a 28-3 which has #8 wire or a 28-4 which uses #4 wire. #4 supports 80 amperes, probably the case here. Allied has the plugs.

Can anyone identify this power source plug adapter...?

That IS a Cannon Plug on the machine. Not NEMA. Electrically, it is close to a NEMA 10-50 (line-line-neutral) Hubbell won't have it, Allied might. It is far over-sized since it works with both 50/60 Hz and 400 Hz. These require different transformers.

Can anyone identify this power source plug adapter...?

That is a Cannon Plug. You will probably need to make one, might be cheaper to set it up with a conventional power cord with NEMA type plug of correct amperage rating. Like those used for welders.

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

Stators are dead simple coils. Sounds like an improperly connected stator-regulator. Which could have over-heated the stator, ruining the magnets and a new magnets ruining the rest. Look over the wiring diagram. Stator is connected to the unmarked leads to the VR. The red banded end is the...

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

I posted a link for the wiring of the charging system. If you fried the stator, you had a short in the stator wiring. It appears you have connected one of the stator leads to the OUTPUT (28.5 volts DC to ground) lead. That might do it. The sole output lead has a red band on it...

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

For that photodiode work-around, a small LED, powered off the output of the bridge rectifier with a 500 ohm resistor or so in series to reduce the current will trick it. This way, the batteries won't be discharged when the generator isn't running. The bridge rectifier should be isolated as...

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

http://www.gctrucks.com/24_Volt_Regulator.jpg Yes, you are on the right track. You need to electrically isolate the regulator from generator ground, then hook the negative to ground. Now the positive regulator output will connect to one fuse end, the other fuse end now connects to terminal...

Make a low trailer for MEP-002A

Got exactly what you need. Design wise. Steerable via wagon-type draw bar. Wheels sufficient for sod. Even 2 speed with reverse gear box and 1/2 Hp 24 volt electric motor drive. No modifications to the generator. Simple welding (might not be simple with wire feed). The motor is from the...

MEP-002A head removal - broke a glow plug

These like to corrode. Anti-seize is a must.

    Update on my 002a

0.0 Ohms on the stator? At a meter scale of 10,000, that is normal. At a scale of 200, there might be a short. These are single RPM engines and unlike most other diesels, timing is fixed. So there is more knock as the engine spools up. Also, load on the generator lowers the knock as the...

    Deuce not idling!!!

I have a few things consuming my spare time so sometime next week? Weather permitting. Been so busy I haven't looked at the weather forecast to see when our next cold snap is coming. Had to change the clutch in my daily driver, release bearing was in pieces.

    Deuce not idling!!!

The governor functions as a balance of forces. Spring force, varied by the accelerator pedal counters the centrifugal force of the governor, dictated by the speed of the engine. The balance of this force determines the position of the control collar. Since the lower end of the IP is...

    Brake troubles

Yes, this keyed, washer-looking seal is the problem, it leaks through the threads and ID of the seal. A bit of RTV here works fine. You can tell if the lip of the seal is working, if so and rubber isn't cracked, reuse it. Don't pack grease in the hub (where it does NOTHING!!!) because this...

    MEP003 Voltage selector switch

I'm going with the flooded cylinder too. These are indirect injected (pre-combustion chamber) diesels. Pressure is highest in the chamber, too much fuel would over-stress the bolts, resulting in loss of gasket compression which would cause leakage. Don't run the engine until the bolts are...

    Self-correcting master cylinder leak?

DOT 3 absorbs water vapor, DOT 5 doesn't. Meaning DOT 3 needs changing every 2 years, DOT 5 only needs the wheel cylinders drained every 4 years or so. Now, for your master cylinder leak issue, this is a sign of impending failure of shaft seal or at the least, dirt on the seal-shaft...

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

24 volt battery charging regulators are common, cheap and small. Meaning they can fit into the space the original regulator fits into. Amazon.com: HQRP 20A Solar Panel Battery Charge Controller / Regulator 12V / 24V 20 Amp 300W with PWM Type of Charging plus HQRP UV Chain / UV Radiation...
