I have a motorcycle jack I got from Northern Tool. I simply roll the wheel/tire up onto the jack and then roll the jack into place. You do have to balance the wheel on the jack while moving it, but it isn't that hard. The nice thing is that I can run the motorcycle jack up and down, as well...
The starter should engage the flywheel almost immediately. There shouldn't be any noise like you mentioned. Don't try to start it anymore until you find the problem or you will likely cause damage. Something is definitely wrong.
1. I really like my FLU419. That is until I add diesel to the tank at a filling station. I have owned many and still own several diesel vehicles, both MV and civilian. None of them foam nearly as bad as my SEE. As an example, my M35A3 has a foam breaker in the neck and I can add diesel at...
I don't see how you are using so much power. You mentioned 5 KW for just lights, TV and computer. I have a large house with a MEP003A 10 KW backup generator. It runs my geothermal heat pump and everything else fine, summer or winter. When I run the generator, it's business as usual - we...
There are some people around with "Parts SEEs". I would check the posts and also put an ad for Parts Wanted. Check also on Benz World under the Unimog section. I've seen Unimog transmissions for sale on Ebay so you might find one there as well.
I shipped a FLU419 last year and used United States of Freight. They were fantastic and their price undercut everyone else I contacted. Even showed up early.
I previously had a tarp repaired by a guy that repairs top covers for boats and also repaired and sewed heavy canvas. I found a surplus tarp from some unknown MV that was in bad shape that someone gave to me free. We used that tarp to cut patches from. The guy glued them in place and then...
When I first got my SEE, I was having the opposite problem. The hand throttle was difficult to move. I removed the handle, which was simple with the one bolt. I cleaned everything up and lubricated everything with white lithium grease. I can now easily adjust how stiff I want the hand...
Don't forget the fuses. Although I didn't have any blown fuses, some of mine weren't making good contact with the fuse holder terminals. I wire brushed the terminals with a Dremel tool and replaced all of the fuses with new ones from EI. See my post at: (107) FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners...
I'm guessing 35 - 40 lbs each. After watching that video I'm not surprised that you thought you needed new bead locks! Getting them out of your tires isn't that hard. Re-installing is simple if you have a ratchet strap to turn them into a figure 8 shape and simply place them in the tire.
What is wrong with the original bead locks? The ones on my A3 are in perfect condition. Also I have a set of forks on the front of my John Deere tractor. When removing the tire from the wheel it is very easy to simply press the tire down with the forks. I adjust the forks so that they are...
Today I decided to determine the top speed of my FLU419. I found a straight and level road with 4 lanes. Wide open it topped out at 49 mph. I read somewhere that the spec for the FLU was a top speed of 50 mph. I can't remember where I read that. One thing I've been curious about is why...
I agree. The first thing I would check is the accelerator pump. Just because it is a newly rebuilt carburetor doesn't mean it might not have issues. You should be able to look down the barrel of the carb and see gas squirt out when the throttle linkage is moved.
I got lucky. When I received the SEE, it was mostly very clean inside and out. The engine compartment was also very clean. I don't think it had been used since it came back from Iraq. There was no dirt on it, only desert sand here and there. The tool compartments were loaded with sand...
A friend of mine recommended Permatex brand Non-Conductive grease. I was suspicious that non-conductive grease would cause problems with contact. I sent an e-mail to Permatex Technical Service asking the question and they told me that putting the Permatex Non-conductive grease on the fuse ends...
I don't have a HMMWV, but I've had several MVs over the years, including a lot of trailers. I keep all of my tags mounted into magnetic holders. The tag is inserted into a rubber backed holder. A red plastic covered magnet is screwed to the back of the rubber holder. The plastic prevents...
