Flat black paint is easy to find and match with the camo pattern. The brown and green rattle cans from box stores don't match well. I found this and am excited to try it out. I will post pictures tomorrow if I get a long enough dry spell to tape off a door and shoot it.
I'm always amazed how someone choosing to enter the MV hobby can be taken as negative. We've each made our choices with our dollars and bought vehicles that were good deals and some that were not. How one chooses to enter the hobby is his own decision. I'm glad the OP chose a Plan-B HMMWV. There...
Ok Seth, it worked! I ordered the 120" length... It would only have taken another 24-30" to get completely around the door. I have sealed between the old and new with some silicone (this is how the original was joined at the bottom of the doorframe). I'm hoping this improves the water seal as it...
Yep! And once it is suspended, you can lift lightly on the fender and get the cab to bounce a bit. If the bags don't inflate you won't be moving anything much.
The NOCO Genius chargers are pretty good too.
Here is a photo of trying to revive some 6TL's. These chargers have a "repair" feature and a 13.7V "supply" feature. One came back to life. One did not.
Nice truck. My first truck as a teenager was a 1/2 ton chevy 4x4 with 6.2L diesel. I will probably have to have one of the military rigs like yours someday to re-live the good old days.
Thanks Awesomeness. Mods, feel free to edit/remove my post #18 above as it appears to be incorrect information. Sorry for the confusion
This information on page 3-42 of the 34-2 TM appears to be the correct torque information we were seeking. Only 18-22 ft-lbs. Apparently they aren't supposed...
I'll be glad to share information once I make sure I've ordered something that will actually work.;) I eyeballed the shape/profile and guessed on the length. Info to follow when I can get home to install.
INCORRECT INFO READ POSTS BELOW FOR TORQUE SPECS ON BOLTS DISCUSSED IN THIS THREAD
It looks like TM 34-2 states in section 3-10 on page 3-86 that flexplate mounting bolt torque is to be 76-94 ft.lbs. See attached screenshot of that section/page.
I'm out of town for a few days for work this week, so I'm making my list. The truck is now licensed and I am working on insurance. My agent called today, with a policy, but I was unavailable and will have to get that finalized tomorrow.
1. Tires: I'm leaning towards putting two MV/T's or XZL's...
Thanks Seth, now I have another item on the list. Admittedly, I enjoy laying under the truck and appreciating the sheer size of components. I am actually looking forward to this one.[thumbzup]
As a side note, while trying to repair the stuck fan clutch, I grabbed the fan to see if it would...
Through the photos I post, you will also see some progression of repainting the camo. It seems the black is the most faded, so that is what I'm working on first. As others have mentioned, the spray can camo colors at HD or Lowes do not match the green and brown colors of the 3 color camo. I will...
Further inspection shows a few new items on the truck.
A new grille
A new push button transmission controller
Air filter is new
Oil looks very clean
Brakes look new
The engine is really clean with no drips or leaks on the bottom. This furthers my suspicion that the truck underwent recent...
Yes, Houston Co Sheriff is one of the main ones, but I've also previewed items at Briarcrest PD, Adamsville PD. My previous truck (M-1078 ) came from Ridgetop PD. There's some good stuff coming out of Ft. Campbell.
I need to start a thread to chronicle repairs, upgrades, etc. on this M-1083.
Acquired at GovDeals auction from Houston Co. TN Sheriff's Office. Reserve price not met, but I threw a bid at the last minute and was contacted two days later with an offer to sell at my high bid (still under...
Post #47 in this thread starts a M-1078 build... They used an abrasive cut off disc. This is really good reading when you get time. It will give you lots of good ideas.

I got them all installed today... As you can see I have 3 original batteries that I was able to revive with the NOCO genius charger. I have added the NAPA battery on the low side since those tend to stay around longer and not crash. I did replace one cable end connector with a HD universal bolt...
