I agree the M715 is a neat vehicle and fairly reliable. The only issues I remember with the M715 from my Army days was a problem with lubrication on the top end of the Tornado engine and overheating problems with the transfer case. I drove one for a while in the early 70s and would love to...
The numbers on my 69 Kaiser dataplate are 32525922 4N21469. I have eight digits on the VIN, same as you, so I believe your VIN is 10872005. I have seven digits in my registration number. You only have six digits listed. The last 66 is obviously correct since you have a 66 model. The rest...
I would be careful using lead shims behind the weight. Lead flows very easily under pressure. When the nut is torqued down, you can get the proper torque setting, but as the lead is squeazed out, the torque setting will relax, possibly causing loss of air at the o-ring seal in that part of...
I'm glad you didn't have an accident, tear up your truck, or something worse! With the Deuce having a single circuit brake system, it is actually quite amazing that more brake failures don't occur. These 40+ year old trucks have a lot of brake components that can fail due to aging hoses...
I just had another thought. You might want to try removing the belts. It could be that something locked up, such as the pump, alternator, etc. and the squealing you heard was the belt slipping. The smoke you mentioned could have been from the belt slipping and burning, putting out the smoke...
You may not be able to see much through the inspection cover. Assuming you don't, try to turn the crankshaft backwards with a breaker bar. I would also go ahead and drop the pan. You may have spun a bearing.
There are optional double-row seats for deuces and 5-tons that fit in the middle for the purpose of doubling the troop-carrying capacity. I have seen several deuces fitted out that way, but all still with active Army.
My daughter works at Fort Gillem in Forest Park, GA and the Army is still...
I've been running one wheel with all CTIS components installed, sans the rock guard. I do have the extra nuts installed that secures the rock guard. I haven't noticed any difference in the way it runs. I capped the hollow lug as well, and screwed valve with bushing into the valve stem to...
Well, I finally got around to purging the motor oil from the Allison transmission in my A3. I bought five gallons of Dexron III from NAPA (NAPA Brand). Before I started, I drove the truck 10 miles to make sure the fluid was thoroughly hot. I drained the pan with the big drain plug, and refilled...
I talked with CM today and they were extremely helpful. I was told that the CTIS system on the M35A3 is now obsolete and they don't stock parts anymore. I was told that the A3 CTIS was obsoleted about 7 years ago. They are currently concentrating on CTIS systems for the Stryker vehicle. I...
I would go ahead and replace the MC since they can be picked up for a reasonable price and there is very little additional labor involved. Then you will know you are 100% on this part of the brake system. I would also never consider using anything but DOT 5.
Does anyone know of a source for NOS M35A3 CTIS wheel valve repair kits. There are detailed instructions on how to rebuild the CTIS wheel valves in the TM, but I have never seen NOS kits for sale. I have not yet tried the manufacturer. It appears to be relatively easy to refurbish the wheel...
