Hi all,
I wanted to move my M1043 (M1114 engine and tranny) to work on it today and for the first time it couldn't start, while it cranked and started within a second a couple days ago.
First attempt:
Move the switch to Run, wait for glow plug (wait) light to run off which happens as usual...
Thanks guys. Now I think I get it :geek:
that being, it means that the boost control is made by adjusting the counter force on the waste gate at the exhaust, so it's an exhaust back pressure control more than a boost control right? I have a hard time believing that gives a linear response and...
Thank you sir!
So, another probably dumb question: what is the line that seems to be going from the turbine cast to the WG actuator on your photo above ?
Thats good to know. I must confess this is my very first Diesel.
What I find confusing though is the gauge that makes feel like the engine is always too hot with that needle to the extreme right !
Hello @Mogman
As I was looking into the work to be done on my turbo, I realized that the WG doesn't have a pressure line in.
The MT confirms that:
So my candid question: Is that really how it works? Does the valve inside the turbo housing simply opens by being pushed by the inner pressure...
What was the high temp reading on the gauge?
My understanding is that the system can work in the range of 190-230 under load and full throttle should disengage the fan clutch for 20 sec indeed. I freaked out thinking my hmmwv was overheating but I was told it's actually normal.
That being, I'd...
In spite of the many large NO STEP labels everywhere in the engine compartment that seem overkill at first, I realize that may not be enough and some idiots may have stepped on the regulator
Another issue I spotted (I'm not officially working on this truck yet;)) is that connectors...
Another bad news which may explain some charge issues (voltage fluctuations at idle)
These are expensive modules so I'll check if it's electronically good in which case I'll attempt a repair, but it will likely need to be replaced
Also the delay module for the fan is missing, that one is a...
There are bits of black rubber foam. There was clearly some form of insulation at some point but not anymore. I don't know if it was phonic or thermal, probably both.
You could well be right: searching the web for "hmmvw turbo conversion doghouse", that's precisely the style of doghouses that's offered. It's made of fiberglass and has no insulation. Therefore the pretty loud noise inside!
Once I receive the insulation shell, I'll see how much clearance there...
FYI.
Bought an M1123 on GP March 12th. Got the EUC May 3rd. Then VeriTread picked-up and delivered the truck in less than 48 hours!
No news of the SF97 though. That buys me time to get the truck in good shape :)
I was prepared for the worst, and have been positively surprised so far.
Here a pic of the doghouse.
from what I found on the web, it's likely a turbo doghouse and it matches the footprint of the floor relatively well - not sure what the expectation would be, though.
While looking into this I realized it has no insulation. So I just ordered the metal/glass wood...
Thanks guys,
Mogman: good eyes... but that's rat poop!
There was a rat nest right on the turbo manifold. Lots of rat stuff dripped from there, and it was cooked when I took possession of the truck.
I hope these critters didn't chew anything.
I believe the dog house is the right one - for a...
Yes that's right. Previous owner (first civilian owner) did the conversion and he also replaced the transmission. There are a few things that bother me and I will seek guidance on this forum when I work on it. In exchange I'll post tons of pics :)
That, at least, I had figured it out :geek:
Do you know how easy it should be to actuate the assembly? I cannot move it at all.
I will need to take it appart anyway, and I followed the link to the adjustable WG setup which is easy to make. I'll post pics.
So in the end I have a great looking slant-back with a turbo diesel engine! I paid more than I thought I would ever put in an Humvee but it was already titled and has all I wanted - which was unlikely to be found.
Now of the minus side:
- powersteering is virtually non existing
- brake...
Now the fun part!
That's a 6.5 turbo in there.
Good news and bad news as it very likely means the original engine was shot which confirms this poor boy was beaten to death.
I'll need help identifying the type of the engine and I suspect the tranny, as I'm totally new to humvees. I'll post...
