    Wrecker Front Winch

Quite agree - a midships winch works if it is a capstain type with a powered take up drum (Land Rover 101-pto driven, left in gear and only pays out when pulled) or if there is a dog clutch and the whole system free spools easily - no tight bends etc (not more than 3/8", maybe 1/2" cable for one...

    Wrecker Front Winch

OK Jeff - now you have me confused. Where did you get the term 'Gipsy head' from? You seem to be the first person to mention it... on this thread. And as DH pointed out re Wiki link - it's the driven horizontal drum (windlas) - toothed for heavy chain- a la negative of a sprocket, used on a...

    Wrecker Front Winch

There should be a way to do it, but you'll need a few pulley wheels, associated brackets, pig tails etc., to safely route the cable smoothly to a rear fairlead past all the undercarriage etc. Current thread on Mack wreckers has the fairlead on the front bumper - winch is way at the back (well...

    Wrecker Front Winch

Only thing that I know of that is anything like a "pogo stick" - is often a term for the 'hosetenna' on a tractor....... and therefore nothing to do with a W/W truck!!! Is a gipsy head anything to do with a capstan type winch??

    Mack wreckers

Yup - they are Australian. Made in country. The wreckers replaced their M816's. There are a couple of former RAEME guys on here that occasionally contribute - but it's their summer now so are probably on the beach and not online! Cargo versions too:

    Level wind winch lubrication dilemma

Looks like you are in the same boat as I was a while ago with my 816. It is solveable if you don't want to replace the shaft for one with a fitting. Just incase your search "button" is broken...

Do I need a permit to drive my M923 home?

Well, since the CDL is a federally mandated entity - I'd say yes. However, there is a big difference when talking about the WHO that is stopping you. Local Sherrif; not so much , DoT trained Trooper; abso-flamin-lutely.

    915 bumper???

It's easy enough to cut-n-paste on your pic, to play with ideas... What do you need the bumper to do? : - Approach angle? Overhang out forward? Strength? Protect lights and grille/rad? Pusher pads? Center pintle? Lift capability? Tow eyes? Winch...

    M816 boom extention

Yeah Ron, I have heard of a few 'in service' storys confirming exactly that.... without an extension. Apparently, the hardened slide tracks crack first - with the flexing of the "inner". so it's worth cleaning them periodically rather than just relubeing them. Never miss an opportunity to...

    Austrian Military Convoy

    M816 boom extention

CGI - this is not real. "..You heard the torpedo hit the hull....... and I was never here." James Earl Jones DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME. DO NOT RUN WITH SHARP OBJECTS.

    M816 boom extention

... I'm gonna say "NO", but glad he did - I'd have never have thought to search for this! ... been thinking about it, but assumed it would be shot full of holes by the "safety Police" and therefore not posted. Commercially - big no no. ... but if a tree falls in the forest - . . ...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Sam - Not the greatest but this is all I have... The second pic shows the whiffle tree being used aswell, this was an option but not often done. Most units didn't even carry them.[AS POSTED BEFORE - CABLE BRIDLE IS BAD] Heres the setup on US trucks w/o a casualty. Grab hooks on each end take...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

We are kind'a sort'a speaking the same language! You do have the "spreader bar" that I am refering to - just call it something else I'm guessing - see your pic and the circled notes.... I captioned the pic for future reference with regards the "Holmes gear" and it's usuall use - ie., without...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Ron - would it be any help to have a full set of fab drawings and a cutting list? I have all the parts stripped down so I could measure everything if you have all the necessary shop equip/steel stock etc... I have already reman'd one of the spring locking pins, need to turn up some knobs next...
