Reference is made to post 3: the differences on the pump panel layout is because the one on the left is a Waterous brand pump and the one on the right is a Hale. I believe the pumps are rated at 500 gpm at draft at 150 pounds discharge pressure. 4.5" hard suction lines are required to draft. I...
I found incrementally better pics of the pump panel. There 3 versions of the M530 and the pump panels are not identical. The "tank suction valve" appears and the right nor rear side of the pump panel in the top row of valve handles.
Star the pump by placing the transfer case in neutral, the transmission in 4th gear and engage the power takeoff for the pump which is in the left rear corner of the cab behind the handbrake. There should be a handle mon the pump panel designated "tank to "pump." Pull this out to admit the tank...
Working with tube tires at home is not an insurmountable problem. Many commercial shops will not do them as few have been fitted to commercial trucks for the last 20 years and many tire mechanics have never seen one. Also most shops will not mount a tire that is over 10 years old. An impact...
Reference post 4: this is as bad as trying to drive a M819 fifth wheel wrecker with an aviation trailer. If the OP feels he wants to put a sleeper behind the cab or get a better ride, recommend he look into a Peterbilt with an air ride. Long wheel base and smooth suspension in 1 package. As post...
Another one from Vet's Day 2010 in NYC: proceeding south on Park AV. New York Central Building spans street with Met Life, formally Pan Am building behind that, Grand Central Station on 42nd ST is hidden behind Met Life Building.
I don't know what the situation is in Europe, but here in North America you can get grief from crime fighters if you run the tractor without a trailer coupled to it. Ones shown in post 75 appear to be commercial products with the reflective panels added.
This used to work with 5 tons. Take the cap bolts off the journals and block a jack up so it would bear on the drive shaft which would lift the cap on the top side. Rotate the shaft 180 degrees and do the opposite cap. I guess if you take the clips off that would work here. The issue would be...
The pintle swivels and the lunette on the trailer doesn't to allow the truck and trailer to ocellate if on uneven ground they tip in opposite directions. If the pintle is rigid you will bend or break something when the trailer twists in a different direction than the truck. M 52s and 818s also...
The best kept secret in the United States Army is its' publication system. Every piece of military equipment has a technical manual or TM. Most of these are available on line. Most items have a data plate on them which lists the applicable TM. Don't make a move without the pubs.
The wheels on the M127u are interchangeable with a 5 ton truck or tractor. In later years the military issued side kits for these trailers made out of fiberglass which are about 1/3 the weight of the wood ones. All the boards only fit it 1 position except the 2ea center side or "locker" boards...
The dimensional data plate shown in post 2 lists the length of a truck without winch as 304" or 25' 3", so even with a winch it should fit in a 40' box. Post 6 should say a 102" wide box is required to have an interior WIDE enough to accommodate a 96" wide load.
You would have to get a container with an outside width of 102" so the interior would be narrow enough to take a vehicle with a 96" wide body. Does the truck have a winch ? Might have to get a 45' or 53' box. Standard containers are 40' long.
Why would anybody want to ? It will be easier to bolt a fifth wheel assembly from a donor tractor than it will be to provide trailer connections that far behind the cab.
Bring a 12 volt light bar if using a civilian truck. A 1008 will operate the 24 volt trailer lights. DOT get anal about running with no rear lights especially at night. If your tow vehicle does not have air brakes, the brakes on the trailer will not work. Happy stopping.
When in service we used...
Calculating resistance is a touchy feelie type thing. Absent a dynometer it is difficult to figure how much power was needed to extricate the truck but it may well be under the rated capacity of the winch as you are not lifting the load vertically As in post 2, a snatch block is your friend. A...
If your truck has the 16 speed caterpillar transmission it could be there to cut the brake line pressure back to a lower value required by the transmission. The cat is an air shift unit and roadrangers which also use air for the range change function have such a pressure reducer.
The flatbed RGN language seems to be boiler plate from GP. This is not a hard and fast rule and apparently varies by site. I have loaded pintle trailers of various sizes in Chambersburg onto a landoll trailer via the yard's 10k forklift. They were willing to do this in spite of having the...
