Just to finish off the post. I got the truck home. She is named Oliver and seems to be very happy. Engine running smooth, no more hiccups so on to the next step in the project. Thanks for all your help.
I see what you thoughts are on that. I was thinking that I was going to be keeping the A/C and the heater (making 24V imperative) and was in a pinch to make it dependable to get it home so I opted to upgrade the charging system to a near "M1009" setup but I used (2) 160 A 12V alternators vs the...
Did you keep the 24V system? I did. Sometimes I wonder if that was a good idea but I had a M1009 for about 18 years as a DD and it worked well so I swapped out the factory M1010 alternators and put in new 12V and rewired as the M1009. I am wanting to put civilian battery holders, one on each...
I got it. Thanks for the reply. I did eventually find several more rivets that I had missed and then it came out fairly easily. I think if I had found all the rivets to start with it would have been easier then the left one. A few of the screws under the duct were very difficult to get out...
Antennaclimber, Did you have trouble getting the passenger box out of the back of your M1010? I think I have all the rivets drilled out including the 4 holding the heater exhaust flange under the box. The one in the rear corner behind the control panel/vent panel was tricky to find. Seems...
I'm not familiar with the Vintage Air kits. I have heard of them but wonder how well they fit and how hard they are to put in. What specific kit are you using? Are you going to use the factory compressor from the ambulance system or replace it? I am thinking a roof top heat pump for the back...
That is one seriously involved upgrade. Mine is staying together as much as I can keep it that way. I did want to remove the interior walls and verify I have no leaks in the outer skin, upgrade the insulation, change some of the wiring while it was open and re-install the interior aluminum...
Thanks for the fast response. Pictures I've seen in the past were closer to the factory then this one so I will attempt a slight move closer and see if that feels different. It seems to be running pretty well after the tank, lift pump, injection pump and sending unit replacement. Next up is...
Hey Mike, Does this look right?
I could not tell if the heavy mark is factory and its way off or if the light mark is factory and it could be a bit more to the drivers side? Any ideas? Thanks Charlie
No progress reports for awhile! How is it going? Is the insulation in the M1010 in bad shape? Seems like lots of folks are pulling the walls and replacing the insulation. Do you think it is worth the effort? What are you putting in and what are you using for the new interior walls. The...
Old post but same problem.....I had the steering wheel off, the blinker mechanism off and there was no pin to be removed and no place I could see that needed to be broken out. Here is a picture of what I saw. Meanwhile I put it back together to wait for information. Any idea what I do from...
I finally got the tank from LMC. It actually showed up pretty fast but took me a few days to get back to the shop to install it. I got it in, bled the lines and it started right up with about 5 seconds on the glow plugs. I have not taken it for a spin yet but I am hoping that this finally...
Lots has happened since my last post. I tried to bring it home 3X and it failed 3X a few miles from the shop. I have now pulled the tank and found some nasty stuff in there along with a bad sending unit so that is on order from LMC.
I could not get a good picture of the inside of the tank...
