Getting to it... CAMO tip of the day

You did exactly what i've done in decades past when R/R engines in M880-types and larger trucks.. When i was in my teens and 20's i had no issue doing tasks without dismantling other things.. But I got smarter after that to take a few steps further and remove the hood, the grille & radiator...

    Tarp cleaning and stave length

HQ Company Maint section as well as BN Maint in my Armor BN each had a M35A1 with high (hardwood) bows , high enough to stand under.. . They had OD-painted plywood on all 4 sides underneath the canvas and a makeshift door in the back, had to drop the tailgate to open the door .. I never looked...

    Military? trailer ID?

with exposed civilian-type axle bearing caps, hubcap-type rims, and that style of bed, it's not a US military jeep trailer of the 1940's on up.. However, the Spen company made many jeep-type trailers.. One of their particular models, at quick glance from the front, was a twin to the Bantam...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

work smarter not harder ;) i have a "little buddy" like that made by AME... Been a lifesaver with tractor, payloader, and grader tires.. in the fine print it says it's okay to use manual or power tools, but not an impact, although tempting as it is ! :D

    Walmart Battery size

i'm not a purist when it comes to what's in a battery box .. i don't even use the oem holdowns anymore, just wood , polyethelyne, or styrofoam blocking to keep them from moving around .. rough off-roading would be a different story though.. Thus for 30 years i've used any pair of good...

Cummins PT pump tach drive question

had a similar problem in the late-70s .. So I built up the drive cable end with (tin) solder then shaped it down to size, and greased the heck out of it .. It has lasted but it has not been run much all these years either

What did you do to your deuce this week?

spent much of the afternoon cussing, fighting, struggling, bending, shaping, and welding the rear doors of the M49C(A2) thanks to an employee of PO who decided to either back the truck into something , or back something into the truck .. there was no adrenaline-fueled excitement though.. the...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

bet you are glad you tested it beforehand , and yeah, you are gonna feel things going a lot smoother doing it with the 5-ton... Long ago before I owned MV's i towed my CJ5 with a Ramcharger and it didn't know it was there .. But one day the ramcharger lost oil pressure and i had tow it back...

    M818 brakes mystery

Have had that situation on rare occasion with my M817 ... When I bought it, it had excessive (half-stroke) free travel on initial stroke but excellent braking so I left it alone.. The first time the hard-pedal happened i thought the problem may have been because I had to pump the pedal a...

The Parts Difference Between Upper-Quadrant / Lower-Quadrant Headlights Is ...

Nothing more than the positioning of the existing OEM parts. Referencing the M39-series 5-Ton gassers (M139, M51, M52, M54, M62 etc) , there are early-mid 1950's online gov't pictures featuring new gassers with upper-quadrant headlights.. This was quite surprising to me since I had previously...

    The next Project an ASMH

Does your M62 have the "rear winch operation" tag riveted to the rear vertical plate of the bed, to the left of the winch? .. Usually 3rd gear is adequate to run the rear winch and the winch tag indicates the requirement of having an operational governor system if used above 3rd gear... I...

    Dodge 230 L6 Question...

you are likely thinking of George Moore's in Keeseville, south of Platts ... Always had a ton of 6x6 (and 4x4) M-series there.. I was born/raised on the VT side, and aside of an active engineer stint in Missouri, I split most my time between VT and NY .. Had bought stereo equip at PAFB PX a...
