With what 4x4 hi and low?
I looked a couple 74-79 trucks a 76 in particular and it was 2x4 or 4x4 but no lock in hubs and not low or hi 4x4. It was factory positive traction all the way around, no lock in hubs or anything. But it was civy truck so maybe that's it. That is why I asked.
Those 4.56s and that diesel love to get out and step down the road.
I can say it seems once you run it that hard a couple times something happens. It's either the truck loves to run at its new found speed or your Foot gets a little heavier. I think it's a combination of both.

I would bet it is air in the system. I actually used a primer bulb on my truck when I worked on the fuel system. I had the ip on my truck rebuilt by diesel care and am very very happy with it. The truck runs better than ever.
