I lurked around here for about a year before I decided on taking the plunge.
Owning a military vehicle will teach you a lot of things. Patience. Tolerance. Skills you never knew you had or cursing you never imagined you could produce (if you’re a cursing man). You’ll relearn basic wound...
THAT... is, awesome.
Had to look at the picture several times until I actually saw where the license plate would go.
In the words of my carpenter friend from Perth, “Too right, mate.”
NB
If I had it to do all over again, I’d buy another aluminum license plate frame:

Add a little light to it:

And...
I lurked for about a year off and on before joining ("I would never join a club who'd have me for a member" - Groucho Marx), it's been a treasure trove of shared knowledge/experience, sharing, met some really great people FTF along the way as well.
Welcome to the madness.
Norm
Thanks for that. I laughed out loud.
Took a moment to look up glass sealing tape on amazon and the evil auction site (50% price difference one to the other), only question is, which thickness would one need for a HMMWV? 1/32, 1/16, 3/32?
Unless you're doing this for a living, I can't see...
92? bad sender’s my guess. You can pull the connections at the gauge and measure the full, 3/4 and lower readings with an ohmmeter - somewhere online is a list showing the range of resistance you should get from a good sender.
I drilled two holes for 1/4-20 rivnuts in the body below the tail light, fabricated an aluminum c-channel to bolt to IT and a license plate frame/light I tapped into the park light feed.
I did this before hanging the airlift bumper, had plenty of room to clear it when I did the upgrade.
I...
Ditto. Even better would be rolled edges top/front - little overkill but one less thing for wind noise - maybe - keep road grime/mud out from underneath.
Either way, PM me a quote for one, I’ll contemplate it.
Thanks.
Finally got around to replacing one of the wheels/tires on my trailer yesterday. Chased threads, new nuts, haven't torqued yet - it's not going anywhere until I do the left side. Meant to do that today, but remembered I needed to get up on the roof with some tar and seal around our chimney...
I'll go with "Bad Military Gauges and Wiring" for $500, Alex.
Just one word. DVM. Digital Volt Meter. Well, an acronym then, but what would a foray into military vehicles be without acronyms?
Find one. Learn to use it. I own a couple, one in my truck, one in my HMMWV (both Radio Shack auto...
The one that blocks out the light (and outside air, coincidentally).
:)
I just reread your post. It’s not the HEATER, but the VENT. On the right side of the commander’s seat footwell. Look outside the truck forward of the door and you’ll see a couple of louvers. INSIDE is a control plate...
MILSPEC is good too, brackets are available from many sources to mount in/outside truck or on bumper.
You DID specify “best way” which is debatable. Having a detachable, portable “tank” if you run out of fuel is a plus in my mind.
YMMV (see what I did there?).
Thanks, Juan. Too narrow a bandwidth for my needs. 115mHz and 150mHz frequencies. Did a bit of poking around, found on NSN-now.com:
5985-01-110-1051 if anyone else is looking.
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I've always been amazed at how foolishly inconsistent the military is with things like painting shiny bolt heads while leaving highly reflective red/amber reflectors and plastic lenses and even clear plastic...
Nothing but a UPS label (other side). No other markings/warnings top/bottom/sides.
Seems like Jeffrey “Dr. Evil” Bezos is cutting some corners to make his first Trillion.
