Made some real progress today. With the help of my neighbor i was able to mount the generator on the trailer and secure it. The generator is sitting on (6) 4" rubber discs to dampen vibration.
We started by bolting the 3/8" x 3" flat bars to the trailer with (6) 1/2" bolts. (3) on each side...
Today I did the oil change and oil filter upgrade. I tried to drain the oil but was getting a slow trickle. I even had the dip stick removed! It was in the upper 70's today so the oil was not cold. I used a farm jack to lift the other side of the generator and inserted a 4" block under that...
I didn't get much done lately due to rainy weather. Today I decided to tackle the fuel filter spin on upgrade on the generator set. I used: (2) Wix 24770 & Napa 4770 Filter Base, Wix 33352 & Napa 3352 Fuel Filter, Wix 33405 & Napa 3405 Fuel Filter. I also needed (4) 1/2" to 1/4" reducers...
All my trucks are M939A0 and on all of them the fans spin some with the engine running. That is 4 out of 4. I have seen plenty of other trucks running and the fan blades were turning on all of them. Yes it does sound like all **** braking loose when the fan clutch activates under load.
It is supposed to spin all the time on the M939 and M939A1. The difference is that it spins slowly and can be stopped (with a 2x4). When it actually engages it makes a load noise that hurts your ear if you are close to it. It is a distinct sound that can be heard when you are driving and it...
I have some nice tires already mounted on 16" rims that are made for dually application. Power King 8.00R16 tires. I got a total of 9. 5 are new and 4 are 90%.
I know reverse polarity happens in NiCD batteries when you run them down too much. It happened to me in the past. That was because we were told to discharge the batteries totally before recharging. That was bad advise by the tool manufacturers. Once the battery reverses polarity it will...
Mine all got replaced when I did the lift to the truck. Mine is a Southern Truck so no road salts to be concerned with. There are some pluses to living below the snow belt (rust belt)
If you got 2 dead batteries out of 4, why not just use the 2 good batteries in series for 24 volts. We have had many members here testify that they only need 2 batteries in their 5 ton truck to run them.
I measured and drilled the flat stock I painted yesterday. i got a chance to use the reconditioned magnetic drill press I bought a few months back. Wow! That drill press drilled through the 3/8" stock like butter! I wish I had bought one years ago! The annular cutters are very aggressive in...
I appreciate your concern and bringing it to my attention. I was an electrical contractor in the past so I am aware of the necessity for proper grounding. I will be adding several grounding points from the generator chassis to the trailer and to copper ground rods. I am also thinking of...
Thanks to my friend Dug (Trailboss) I got a nice MEP-002A 5KW generator to install on the trailer. It has 2440 hours on it and was reset at Ft. Hood in 2007. Here are some pictures of the generator:
So far all I had to do on it was replace all the Ty-wraps that were dry-rotted with new...
I made up a stencil with a wolf's head to paint on the doors of the truck. I used stencil adhesive to help hold the stencil to the metal while I sprayed the brown CARC substitute paint. Got nice sharp line with now overspray!
Finally got some more work done to the truck. With the help of my friend Allen I managed to upgrade the alternator to a Leese Neville 100 AMP 24 volt alternator.
You weren't there? I didn't notice. :-P Actually we did talk about you. We were reminiscing about the Hobbit shelters you used to build for the rally. :grd:
Why was the sailor in the brig? He took a dump on the POOP Deck. :recovry4x4:
I had an awesome time Friday and Saturday. The weather was perfect. I enjoyed the chats and checking out all the member's rides. Some very impressive and ingenuitive work.
Thank you Tim and Pam for your hospitality and for putting up with me. The food was great this year! (Tim cooked) He...
