we just took our 5 ton 4 door to sonic tonight for ice cream. wasnt sure i was gonna make the turn with that big old long truck, but it went around just fine. and yeah, all the people came running out and wanted to look and take pictures,,,,still didnt get ice cream free :cry:
major part of the build took me about 12 man hours, cosmetic body work about 10 hours. prep and paint complete truck about 6 hours.
a slip roll would be nice, i need to make a new muffler for the ferret soon and I am not sure I can find a thin wall tube large enough to make it from, so making...
i do believe that trailer is a bit OVERLOADED! I brought my 16's back strapped to the back of my frame rails on my 5 ton, we Used makes m62 wrecker to load them up there, it was a breeze. But unloading them was a bit of a challenge. I finally decided to just roll them off the back of the 5 ton...
i didn't use a brake or a roller, found no use for one actually. i actually built mine in the street next to my house and in my driveway, no forklift, no hoist, just man (boy) power, hammer, torch, lots of cut off wheels, etc.
depending on how much sheet metal you plan on leaving between the two doors on the side you will need a cross brace of some sort to keep the cab from flopping around. I left almost 2 feet between mine. Make sure you brace the floor very good. and let the cab float on the frame or it will flex...

Elmo has a 6-71 detroit engine in it. The engine is so long that it wouldnt allow the radiator to be under the hood. So it was put outside the original grill ad that goofy looking grill was added to it. Correcting that is the next project.
I have actually had a chance to run my ferret around the kansas speedway, got it up to about 55 and took it up on the banking...then right back down!! 55 wasnt fast ehough! felt like it was gonna fall off the track! Anyway it was a BLAST! I have pictures posted somehwer on here of it. I STILL...
get some good pics of the cat. i knida like it, might try to use somethign like that in my camo sceme when i eventually get around to it.
along witht the flames on the hood and sides that is.
I would love if you could ahve him point at a duece out there and say "look daddy, its a LITTLE duece"!!!! Its an inside things, between us 5 ton guys and the guys with the little 2.5 tons.
