Yes, you can use 15W50 or so engine oil. This is what the military wanted, not what your expensive Allison 3000 series transmission wants. Your oil may be well-oxidized and worn by now.
There are two filters. I shopped and found a WIX filter. Turns out Wix is OEM. Bought closeout 2 filter pack...
I have searched everywhere for CAT technical manuals. The CAT dealer will be happy to sell you some for big bucks. Being the frugal guy I am, I searched everywhere. I found a website in NZ that has a membership fee of $19.00 for 1 week, where you can download the major manuals for this engine...
CFM will be around what the Cummins drop in fan kit for the Ram truck needs. Be careful with Chinese made fans with inaccurate CFM. I looked at converting, then stopped after looking at the complexity of the fan clutch and air system.

3. Many parts are specialty items, sourced from all...
Things that ARE practical about FMTV's:
1. If you hit a Prius, you can just use bug remover
2. With an M1088, even semi-trucks get out of your way
3. If you can't find parking, you just make you own spot

4. Dings and dents just add personality to it...

Warning- Check your fan clutch RETAINER bolts regularly
Make sure that you regularly check those clutch retainer plates for bolts that are backing out. Mine backed out and threw the clutch material and I lost a retaining plate ( there are 3). If you look closely the retainer plates are starting...
