It should have at least 2 lips, facing opposite directions. It could have more. You'll need to see it to tell. I would guess the metal surface would face out.

I hate to say it but, the Chinese starters sold by DB just don't last. OEM parts are so much better. I'd only go Chinese if it's the last option.

What relay did you buy/install? Have you removed it and tested it with an ohm meter to verify the relay is stuck closed? I do not recommend hacking your battery cables to install a disconnect switch. This has been discussed many times before. If you don't understand the electrical system...

Where are you getting your starters? What brand are they?

What kind of solder are you using? What kind of wire are you soldering? What are you using to solder with? Can you tin either wire?

I'd let my insurance pay for a replacement.
