That looks like my trailer. I put mine together a couple of years ago. I used it alot. I always just used it behind a CUCV truck. I moved alot of 6.2's with transmissions bolted to them, axles, and misc. other heavy stuff. If it wasn't high enough I would just back the trailer up on some...
Kicking this one back to the top again. I have not had any luck on this. I thought I had it taken care of but that fell through. Now I'm about out of time. Anyone know someone reputable in the area that could pick it up and hold it ? Or a shipper that could get it farther north or make the...
Don't worry I'm not scrapping any. I'm collecting as many as I can. Last year I put contact maint beds on (2) 2010 Dodge 2500 to make work trucks out of them. Also I would like to add this statement. No CUCV's were harmed in the making of this project. (At least by me anyway).
My issue is time. I hauled one from Maine to PA. Wasn't bad other than the snowicane I got caught in My side of Hartford CT. I don't think snow will be a problem. Just time. EUC's I want to go through fast go slow and ones I want to go slow go fast. I'm just lucky that way.
Weighing options on how to get this Dodge aircraft tug home. It will not drive on a trailer. It has no drive shaft. Truck needs to go to Brookville, PA as its final destination.
Even if I could get it a little ways north that would help. (the farther the better) Anyone going that direction ...
If the frame is bent upward at that point and the crossmember has not been changed or repaired the
crossmember most likely is bent. The center of the crossmember where the adapter mounts should be approx 13/16" lower than the ends where it attaches to the frame. I just went out to the garage...
Is the crossmember bent ? I have had lot of those.
As far as the crached adapter:
I would check the drive shaft to make sure it isn't bent. Even little dings can cause problems. Did the truck vibrate
at 30 to 40 MPH ?
Axle swapin
FWIW the Coleman's M1009 front axle I purchased was still in the wooden crate bolted down.
When changing axles in the past I used a set of those cheapie car moving dollys under the axle. I just bolted a set of x-tra wheels on with no tires. Works good for me and the truck...
One last update. I parted out the last tug I picked up over the weekend. I discovered the tug I had once thought about towbaring home had a broken frame. It was cracked across the lower web and then about 90% up the side of the frame where the upper control arm is attached (just behind the...
Axle concerns
Not that I am saying use a dolly, but if you look at my earlier post you could remove the eight bolts that hold each axle in remove the axle and bolt some blank plates on to keep the crud out and the remaining axle lube in. With this method you wouldn't have to unbolt the...
I ended up trailering mine home. I used my 10000# trailer and my 97 Dodge EC CTD 3500 dually with a 250 shelter in the bed loaded with tools. I didn't realize I had the tug loaded too far back until I blew the 2 rear tires on the trailer (10 ply). It was fine for hundreds of miles. Then I...
I think if you read the "fine print" in your own statement you might understand.
Let me spell it out.
"He then went on to say every duce in his area was marked SALVAGE"
Your statement " A quick search yesterday revealed all duecs in his area state "Sold For Scrap" in the first line it was...
That is a broad statement. I am sure "all" the vehicle descriptions do not start with "To be sold for scrap"
The OP is just giving a heads up. I know for a fact he is not the first person to have this issue. It is what it is. A shame if it is a good truck.
Maybe the gasoline only Mr Gasket pump is the secret. I had several failures with the green diesel pump pumping pump diesel. I returned one because it was still under warranty. They asked me no questions just handed me another one. It lasted less than a year. If memory serves me correctly I...
Hello M880 unimog, Great looking project. What years were the SUMB vehicles produced with the Flat Head engines ? I used to work on some late 40's Mercs for a guy. Just sparked my interest. Safe Travels.
Also as far as clean cuts - I worked for a company that built heavy equipment trailers. We used oxy/natural gas for cutting the holes to install lights and what not - I could do a really nice job with it. Personally I don't see much of a difference what fuel gas is used when cutting or...
