Mech. starter Solenoid Vs. Electically Actuated Starter

You have to time the movement of the linkage with the application of power to the starter. If you don't do this right, you'll grind the ring gear. Best option is to go to a truck shop and have a proper starter made. The starter bolt pattern is standard SAE; shouldn't be too tough.

Motor City Motors - another Deuce on TV

I enjoy the engineering/ fabrication type shows but can do without all of the drama.

    Silicone Knuckle Boots?

I have been using silicone sheet drops purchased from ebay to make DIY valve cover gaskets. While the material compatibility guides recommend against silicone, they have held up fine so far after three years use. Fluorosilicone would be better but is lots more money. Hard to believe that the...

Making a Deuce a (better) highway vehicle?

Something to think about for you folks paranoid about tire speed. I interviewed for an engineering job at Michelin about 10 years ago. The interviewer said that NO over the road truck tires were rated for greater than 65mph. Interstate speeds are 75mph in SD.

    55mph detonation post mortum. . .

I was wondering the same thing; seems like a common failure mode. It'd be nice to find a fix.

    Lockers in a 5 ton???

This is a little off topic but what could possibly be novel enough in gearhart's gear set to be patentable?

    Sprag Clutch Rebuild / Repair

You should be able to take the reverse sprags from a good unit and install into the front sprag clutch. I had planned the same until I purchased the REB kit from Memphis. You can pull the front drive assembly without dropping the t-case.

multi eng. & Trans in F-700

Saw somebody put an 8.3 cummins into an F250. Took a fair bit of work. Have to believe that would be much better than an LDT.

    Frame cutting

Use a torch. Cutting off the end of the frame is a non-issue as long as you don't do something stupid and throw water on it to cool it. TM9-1819B states the following: " Use electric arc welding when reinforcing damaged members. Do not weld on fillets of frame, or edges of frame members as...

MV ignition distributor with Civilian Wires

The best thing I ever did for my deuce was convert to a civilian distributor and a Pertronix electronic ignition. We converted my brother's 602 military distributor to electronic ignition and it made a nice improvement.

    6.2 GMC Engine swap

I hope that you're not implying that the 700R4 is stronger than a NV5600, G56, or 6 speed Fuller? I know which one I wouldn't want behind my cummins.

Leaking rear main seal on GMC 302

Short of a one piece rear main, the Best Gasket is supposed to be the best solution.

    Speedometer Adapter Leaking Gear Oil

Thanks for the dimensions. This is the last real leak on the truck and I'm hopeful to eliminate it.

    Speedometer Adapter Leaking Gear Oil

I got the seal from my local NAPA. Part number 8X14X4TC. Dimensions are in mm. Nothing else even close in the parts book. However, it still leaks. The shaft can move back and forth far enough for the seal to ride on the squared off part. Is this normal?

Need Help in Obtaining PTO for Deuce

I was led to believe that there are two types of PTOs (generally speaking) small (ie. 3052) and a large and that within those respective groups they would interchange; not true? Aside from the sprag engagement rod, what is different about the 3152 and 3153?

How long does she have doc

A fine read but nothing about whether the self draining filters were a design intent or an oversight/ shortcoming. Unless someone can show historical data, it seems like pure speculation.

If you only need to run a rear PTO/ pump, won't a civvy PTO work?
