The first 2 M44 series manufacturers were Reo and Studebaker. I am pretty sure it was mid fifties before they changed to another manufacturer.

If it's a 1952 deuce and starts with an "M" it's a Studebaker.
On all the long deuce trips I have taken; I've found that the first 100 miles are the worst and that is also when you will most likely have an issue if you are going to have one.
