Is there any type of installed electric tachometer that could utilize the pulses generated by the alternator for a read out? If there were that seems like a more simple option than magnetic tach that some folks install.
I have been looking for an excuse to drive the M1009 on a trip of about that length as well as return a spare tire to the Cincinnati area. If I can get a babysitter for the two youngest, I will come.
After a meeting of the minds we deemed it not necessary to remove the front driveshaft since the smaller tire would be truning faster rather than slower (causing the t-case to engage). I was thinking it would be the opposite which could create problems if we didn't remove it. Either way it ran...
I lowered my pressures to obtain a little better traction as I had done in June. Apparently the lower pressure in that tire allowed a rock from the 'rock slide' hill to bust the bead. And as you said the air went out. I heard it happening, which sounded pretty weird, but didn't know what it...
I cured my poor M818's condition. All better now as of tonight! Most importantly, a huge thanks goes out to Augie for lending me his spare. My weekend would have turned out pretty cruddy without him and his generosity. Of course the same goes for everyone else who assisted with the tire...
I didn't take too many pictures. Here are the few that I did grab with my iPod. I appreciate all the ones that everyone else took, especially those documenting my destroyed tire.
It looks like Dad already pulled the CUCV partially out of that pond when the video started rolling. I'm sure he was in there deeper than the video makes it seem.
Monkeythumbs's maneuver to make his M1009's radiator a water to water type was much more glorious than anything the Suburban got into. Did anyone, by chance, get a picture of that?
My dad and I will be arriving Friday at about dusk along with Pegasus55 (Jerry). A M818, a M35A2 and a M1009 will be accompanying us. My son will not be coming as was originally planned due to his behavior this week at school.
I purchased all of my Al tubing and silicone connectors from www.siliconeintakes.com. I have two 24"x3.5" 90* Al elbows and two 3.5" silicone connectors left over from my turbo conversion. If they can help let me know.
I technically have 'manditory fun' (for work) on Saturday that I should be able to get out of. So, my son and myself should be there for all of the days and my father will likely be there as well.
I think it would work if your are tires spinning, like if your truck is already stuck. The problem that I see is that you have to have a locker in the axle that the capstan is attached to.
I had the same issues getting mine on a U-Haul auto transport trailer. I started to doubt that it was going to fit, but it did.
Always nice when it doesn't require much to get it going.
