With funerals and birthdays and work and my gimped up shoulder, I haven't been getting much done on the truck.
I did manage to get my tach cable swapped out today and that solved my "jumpy" tach. It wasn't too bad after I borrowed a crowfoot wrench from my neighbor. Getting the dang cable...
Clarification on my earlier statement regarding holding the RPMs up between gears:
I found my deuce to be picky about slipping into gear if I let the RPMs fall off between gears. I'd end up having to double-clutch and blip the throttle about half the time to get it into the next gear. I found...
With any bigger truck, let the clutch out smoothly BEFORE you add power. It's not like a smaller vehicle with a gas engine where you apply power as you let out the clutch. Smoothly release the clutch with the engine at idle, and then press the accelerator only after the clutch is all the way...
Vinyl wrap is expensive. I priced it at about $3,000 for my FJ. That was for a digital camo wrap for the whole truck.
I would think wrap for a large MV would cost more than the MV!
I have been in hard-bottom swamp in Florida that was like that. We could drive for a mile or so through the water that was actually part of the trail. Except for one spot, the entire water crossing was a very constant 35 inches or so. The one deeper spot was 4 feet and that was very narrow, like...
How would carbon dioxide ruin an engine? It simply starves the engine for oxygen and stifles combustion. I don't think I would want to dump an ABC extinguisher in the intake, but CO2 shouldn't cause any damage? Right?
Spent a couple of hours playing around at a friend's house on Saturday. He's got few acres and a pond there. We've been talking about getting the deuce over there for a trip down to the pond and I finally made it over there this weekend. Nothing severe, but it was a fun way to spend a couple...
Clinto, yeah it's fine. I stopped as soon as I heard/felt the problem and it was a very low speed event. The damage was limited to getting dirt and scuffs on my freshly cleaned and painted spare!
Had a good time today with Betty. I took my neighbor up to Lowe's and hauled a load of 16 foot lumber back for him. That 12 foot bed is nice to have.
After that I took my son and his buddy to town for a late lunch. My son loves those trips and it was his buddy's first trip in the Deuce. On the...
Went over to a buddy's house to check out his new 1970 Chevelle 396SS that he just picked up on Friday. Very nice clean car.
I didn't think about it until now, but I should have gotten a photo with Betty and the Chevelle together. They're both the same age.
Anyway, here's a few photos from...
Yeah, the time passes a little faster at Hooters than at the Wendy's across the street for some reason. I'm not sure why. Maybe more research is required.
Thanks Recy Mech. The best of luck to you with the house, and the deuce.
Maybe I can save others some trouble by passing along an account of my trials and errors.
I've been really busy for a couple of weeks now with limited time to spend on Betty. I drove her around a bit and we managed to make it to the 57th Fighter Group for breakfast on the 11th.
Other than that I've fixed the leak in the fuel return line, cleaned and painted my spare tire/wheel, and...
Yeah, Andersonville Prison might be a bit heavy for a weekend gathering. That's probably something I'll do myself for the experience and the education.
I noticed after I got home that my IP is leaking a little oil and my dang fuel return line is dripping again! I'll have to dig into that...
Sail-bum, did you make it back ok? I've been working on the truck and on the yard today and haven't been watching the forum as much as usual. Post up and let us know you made it ok.
Zout, I take it that smoking, knocking heap made it home ok. Next time you shouldn't try to take part of the landscape home with you!
I'm looking forward to the cookout and hope I make it home from my trip west in time to be there.
It was just the three trucks but we had a great time this morning. Breakfast was great and the conversation better.
We talked about doing this again at other interesting locations around Georgia. I very much like that idea. Ideas are welcome. Zout told us about the Andersonville prison near...
Clinto, I was looking forward to seeing you there, but I understand. Still hoping you make it, but if not, I'll see you out at your place sometime soon.
Don't forget daylight savings time kicks in tonight! We spring forward 1 hour.
My cell number is 770-231-5231. If anyone needs assistance, directions, or wants to arrange a rally point for joining up on the way over, give me a holler.
