Jack up one tire on the last axle. Grab the tire and turn it really hard forward or backwards, doesn't matter. A standard diff will not turn except for the play in the gears. A locker will unlock and the wheel will spin free until it slows down and will suddenly lock.
The M1009 does indeed have a locker. A Eaton Governed locker. A loud bang could be from a axle gear missing teeth. Ask me how I know!

I should add I use an older version of Tapatalk. Version 2.4.15. I don't like the newer versions. I found this older versions.
Made it home at 19:30. I followed steve6x6 at 58mph in front wheel drive. Broke the rear diff in the 1009. I removed the spider gears and locked the front hubs. 455 miles with the front end pulling. We stopped for lunch at WH in Macon. I managed 19mpg with the pioneer tool trailer in tow.
He is talking about the Ste/ice port under the center of the dash of all the cucv. You can see it in the pic below the steering column. Just take it loose and stow it behind the dash.
