It comes down to this . . . Dot 3 absorbs water , right out of the air. Any fording water means CHANGE the brake fluid. Dot 5 is Silicone based and does NOT absorb water, in fact, it repels it. Hence the military using it. IF you will not be taking your girl swimming, Dot 3 is fine...
Novacaine, I know the world has changed , but thirty years ago " that car ran right into me Officer. What is wrong with folks ? " So glad there weren't tattletale cameras everywhere.
Late to the party, AGAIN ! Hope all goes well for ya Miss Alice. Ya know where we are if ya need us. ( and wheelspinner is right about the pics, but I know it's been a Whirlwind tour ). Waiting patiently tuh hear more.
cucvmule, I certainly mean NO disrespect to the 6.2 as I have owned a few and worked on many. It is a solid reliable workhorse that is nigh indestructible if cared for. Yes, when GM realized that "dieselfying" the 350 was a bad idea they had Detroit ( a GM division ) help them turn the stouter...
Not a huge deal, just don't go to a truck stop and say you have a 6.2 Detroit in yer HMMWV. Unless you want to make them laugh. Truckers like to laugh.
Agree with above. I see nothing wrong. The color difference on the pushrod just below the rocker is completely normal. IF that is what you are concerned about, don't be. Whatever you do, DO NOT file, grind, sand, or otherwise mess with the casting flash on the head. Button everything back...
6 BEFORE the 2 won't hurt anything and it'll keep "big" crap outta the 2 thereby extending it's life too. After the 2 is kinda pointless. If this is a "hobby" truck, I'd add the 6. If it's gonna be used often with lots fresh fuel then perhaps NOT. But why not ? It will only help. My $ .02.
Heard this was a HOT thread, so here's an Old Farts hot air. :
1 - IF you have never had experience with TUNING a mechanical diesel. Or if you have and still like to know what your engine is REALLY doing, GET AN EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE INDICATOR. EGTs are the "chalk check" for the engine...
Prosit !
RobM,. Have him make sure the output shaft doesn't have grooves worn in it where the seal rides. Did you see any when YOU did it ? Hopefully it was just a defective seal. It happens. Just remember to look for ALL the possible points of failure. Worn bearing inside will let the...
Made the final payment. Exit Strategy is now MINE, at least financially. Waiting for the title so I can arrange insurance and registration. Once Eastern Surplus does their CPR (Comprehensive Pretransfer Reconnaissance) she'll be picked up and brought "home". I thought I was anxious before, ...
Yes, Ford screwed the pooch on THAT one. Hence me always pushing the "chalk check". That's wut the tires actually NEED. NOT what makes them cushion people's tuchases the best. Good ride means too low. Proven it time and time again to my customers over the years.
Won't debate anybody's experience but heat building up in a tire comes from only four sources. Overloading. Underinflation. Driven "too hard" (faster than the speed rating). Overheated brakes. That's IT. Science FACT. One is bad. All four are a sure path to boom. ( Wes, ya just pretty...
First, I see no, or very minimal water in the pic. Fuel Floats on water. The light yellow stuff is some form of glycerin (floats on fuel if not in solution). Guyfang is right on the money. Although, I suspect you can get away without pulling the tank if ya get a good drain. Wouldn't hoit to...
Only thing I'm pushing is safety my man. No offense taken by me, fer sure. Appreciate the re-exam though. Too many people buy these monsters and have never driven anything bigger than Cobalt. Two VERY different worlds. Good on ya mate. Keep the shiny, er flat side up.
I'm not trying to "leverage" anything. Just offering advise based on decades of experience as a professional driver AND a firefighter who has to cut the remains out of crushed vehicles after bad stuff happens. I'm glad yours turned out well. You were obviously paying attention and knew what...
