I drive a gas-sipping import car as my daily driver. Some the money I save by driving this goes for diesel fuel for my thirsty 5-ton. I had an M1009 that I used for a while as a daily driver while I was between import cars.
If it were me, I would save the nice M1008 as a collector vehicle and...
It's like the movie "Dumb and Dumber", only it's "Slow and Slower".
The M35A2 I had would do 57 MPH flat out with stock 9.00 X 20 tires, but that was 100 RPM over redline. I only tired that once. I cruised at 52 to 53 MPH.
I probably won't make this trip, so you guys have fun. Be sure to cruise over to Alamo Mountain, especially if the weather turns hot. There is a creek crossing (paved) and then you get up into the pines.
You have changed a tractor into a cargo truck, which is a different classification, but I fail to see how this would have change the roadworthiness of the truck. Are there other modifications, such as removing an axle, that the state finds objectionable?
I've know Brad M. for over 40 years and he is a great guy. My brother and I beaned Brad with his own snowballs that we stole off the porch of his cabin at Lake Sequoia back in 1976. He called us little rats after that.
Here's my experience with the pneumatic impact guns running off the truck's air system: you do have to pay attention to how much air your impact gun uses. There are some that require lower CFM's than others. Also, using the hand throttle for higher engine RPM's helps the air compressor keep...
^Go historical if your truck is at least 25 years old and you are only planning to use it for parades club outings the majority (51% or more) of the time. No weight fees, no smog testing etc...
IMHO, this photo belongs on a Darwin Awards site, not on Steel Soldiers. Are we next going to show ripped up bodies from the battlefield? Remember that kids view this site.
As a burn survivor, I find the photo particularly jarring. I'll not share what I saw and experienced in the burn unit...
Another option that no one has mentioned is to buy a 3/4 or 1 inch impact tuna d keep it in the truck toolbox. You would also need to make an air hose with a glad hand one one end and long enough to reach all the wheels on the truck. You will get an air supply from the emergency air glad hand at...
This is how I was taught to test a fan clutch: with the engine turned off, try to spin the cooling fan by hand. You should feel some resistance, the fan should not spin freely nor be locked up. You can also try to wiggle the fan towards the engine or radiator to check for looseness, which...
Here is some interesting reading on the NHC250:

Maybe you could replace the NHC250 with another small cam engine with a little more horsepower. I seem to remember there being one of about 290 HP...
