FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Thanks everyone for the numbers on the hitch height. I'll go with 33" since I plan on running taller 14.5R20 tires.

Could someone please get me the height of the FLU419 pintle hitch over ground; I am working on a trailer 500 miles away from my FLU419? Thanks.

OFFER: Empty box truck and flatbed trailer going from NC to MT via TN, MO, NE, SD

I need to pick up some items from Bozeman, MT mid September and will be empty coming from Western North Carolina. Please PM if you need anything moved that is on or reasonably close to my route from Asheville to Nashville, St. Louis, Kansas City, Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Billings, Bozeman. The...

If you can only find 12V bulbs, put every two in series on a 24v system.

Does the clutch pedal feel like a clutch pedal? Increasing resistance and then decreasing? Does the clutch throwout arm move when a helper presses the clutch pedal? If both is the case, I would set the emergency brake, put the gear selectors in the highest gear, and turn the big bolt in front...

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the flaring tool from that will hold but not damage the metric copper-nickel line?

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Did anyone here replace some of the rigid brake lines? The lines and fittings are metric but the flare is not the usual metric bubble - at least at the master cylinder. What line and flare tool should I get if I reuse the fittings? The line needing replacement goes from the front of the cab...

    Winching the SEE

Thanks for the suggestions. The Mile Marker hydraulic winch from the HMMWV is a good choice for front or receiver mounting since the SEE already has the hydraulic circuits. For logging I need more and heavier cable than the Mile Marker holds and am going to pursue the idea with the mid-mounted...

    Winching the SEE

Mocked up the cable path with a rope and a couple sections of PVC pipe. There is definitely plenty of space to make this work. Who knows a source for heavy duty pulleys/sheaves or snatch blocks that fit a 1/2" cable? I am also looking for a SEE pintle hitch. Just need the forging with the...

    6v53 vs 8v71

As an alternative, I have a 6V53 for sale that was built to deliver 400hp with twin turbos and inter-cooler. I built it from the block up with the correct OEM components (cross head-pistons, bypass blower, etc.) for a lobster boat that got destroyed in a storm before I could drop the engine in...

    Winching the SEE

Got the SEE stuck badly in clay yesterday with only 4WD but no Diff-locks and having had a winch would have saved me about an hour of propping the wheels up and filling the ruts with brick rubble. (BTW: In order to get the front wheels raised with the weak loader, the backhoe boom and dipper...

Should have put the word "new" in quotes or called the failed spare tire NOS - as in: never used but manufactured decades ago.

Don't forget to get the brackets. Speedwoble may have some in stock or try the usual Unimog vendors.

Any tire where the rubber weathered to the point that water got to the reinforcement plies will fail that way, regardless of brand.

Great to hear that GP made good on what was advertised in the auction. FWIW: My spare tire was also brand new but bulged in one spot on the sidewall when I inflated it. Don't rely on an ancient tire just because it looks unused.

Tilting the cab makes working on the 4WD/Diff lock valve easy.

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Unless you have gallons of water in the tank, the two strainers and two filter housings will separate water out. As far as rust and other crap on the inner tank surfaces is concerned, should I use a chain or lead shot to shake this off after pulling the tank? My system holds prime but I have...

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

There was no spring under my lever cap. The cam section of the valve has a very poor mechanical advantage and any amount of grit will stop the valve from moving. I found that penetrating oil makes things worse, so I removed the valve (a bear of a job with the cab in the normal position), pushed...

Using my SEE for real work

I find the pneumatically actuated intermediate reduction very useful for shifting down on a hill in a hurry. Start out in the high position and whatever gear is suitable. After releasing the clutch, slide the collar down and the next push of the clutch pedal will downshift automatically and a...

FLU419 stuck in 4-wheel mode, not engaging in differential lock

Thanks for the dimensions. I will put a pump kit, including pressure gauge, together in the next couple of weeks and will add it to the loaner tool thread. The square hydraulic pump (fluid drained) and the connections will fit easily in a flat rate box.
