    1985 M1009 still rolling

Okay, it will work with the extended hitch if I omit one fuel can. At least I can still carry one back there while towing the trailer. The 2nd picture is with the short hitch, I had no fuel cans loaded up just in case and it's a good thing. I would have probably hit the trailer if I had a fuel...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

I received the ball/hitch. I'll connect the trailer later this morning to see if it's going to give me enough clearance between the fuel cans and the front of the trailer when turning. If not, I'll be buying a tent! I may get one anyway so I don't need to deal with a trailer. I just hope I can...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

I managed to get the trans temperature gauge/kit installed today. I used a 2" hole saw and a deburring tool to finish the fit. If I'd used a 2-1/16 inch hole saw which is the diameter of the hole needed for this gauge, the hole would have been too sloppy. A hydraulic punch kit with the proper...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

Well thanks! Much appreciated sir. My hope; like so many others here is to contribute enough information, ideas or inspiration for others to tinker/learn and get out to enjoy their respective vehicles. There are so many excellent builds and ideas here, it's just awesome. I learn something every...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

Still nothing on the turbo; so, I'm picking away at other ideas. Considering I'm hoping to tow the trailer with the M1009, I bought a transmission temperature gauge. They sure did not give the driver much to go on back in the day. By the time the "idiot" or trouble lights ever came on the goose...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

Not a hitch extension/extender if that's how my post read. It's just regular Curt 2" hitch but longer than standard. the longer hitch has far more capacity than I would ever attempt to pull with the M1009 even if it could do it. I think the longer hitch has a rating of 7500lbs, I don't remember...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

I rebuilt this 71 Shasta trailer many years ago. I had some spare time today and figured I'd make sure my civi trailer connections work and give it a spin around the block. The wiring worked and to my surprise it towed effortlessly with the M1009. I was a bit worried it would be horribly slow...

What the Heck is This CUCV Part?

Yep, so far so good. However, I did just tighten the plastic connection on the valve for the wire that started this thread a couple weeks ago. At first glance, I thought the radiator was leaking until I took a closer look. The plastic connection was rather loose. I dare not tighten it too much...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

I boxed in the risers and got them painted. I also installed the anti-destruct mechanism for the tailgate. I'm not in love with the look or the location but I had to attach it to the part that needs to move out of the way in order to prevent the inevitable tailgate destruction. So, this project...

What the Heck is This CUCV Part?

jplace1011 Here is mine, it looks like yours is missing the black retention collar part. You have to squeeze the collar to release it from the combo valve connection. That may be why they just left it off; or, they were tired of the brake light being on. Now, you need to find the wire that...

What the Heck is This CUCV Part?

Interesting. Mine works on my 85 M1009. I can double check on mine tomorrow but I'm pretty sure that's it. Scooter... Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

What the Heck is This CUCV Part?

Certainly, Looking at the larger pictures you took on my computer rather than my phone, I can see the combo valve and it does look like the connection is missing on the top of it. Enjoy the journey, these forums are fantastic! Scooter...

What the Heck is This CUCV Part?

It looks like the connection for your combination or as it's also called the proportioning valve for the brakes. Long story short, if there is a loss of brake pressure this will trigger and light up the "Brake" light on the instrument cluster. In the picture, it appears this connection is up...

M1009 Swing Out Tire Carrier Ideas and Advice

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm almost finished my M1009 tire carrier. Many of us have struggled with the space consumption of the spare tire mounted in the back and figured I'd share my solution. I used a Smittybilt XRC 2 carrier and adapted it to the M1009. The wheel holder is fab'd...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

Thanks, I completed the tire carrier and it's one of those rare items that actually turned out the way I had it in my head on the first attempt! I managed to retain access to all tow related items without needing to swing the carrier out of the way. I still have easy use of the Pintle, window...

    1985 M1009 still rolling

Slowly inching forward...finally! The tire carrier is a Smittybilt XRC 2 and I'm making the mounting bracket/adapter to utilize the original M1009 tow points. This way, I can leave everything as stock as possible. I ordered the steel for the tow point online which was a match for the original...

    M1009 Braking Issue

    M1009 Braking Issue

It's worth a shot here.... I have an 85 M1009. Your problems sound similar to what I experienced with mine. It would nose dive and lock up pretty easy, pull to one side or the other, leave a skid mark occassionally under light braking. It was odd behavior to say the least. My front hubs would...
