Are you sure its the alts not charging or the gauges falling off? I have a intermittent relay problem that is causing gauges to act up but unable to pin it down yet.

It doesn't take much of a leak not to build pressure. I've had a couple of leaks and thought the truck could keep up but it wouldn't.
