25 mpgs sounds a little too good. My trucks average 18-20 with stock sized tires. Remember to check the accuracy of your speedo. From what I have seen the speedos are at least 10 percent off, meaning 55 mph on speedo is usually 50 or less. This ofcourse makes your odometer register more miles...
I have been using one as a daily driver averaging 50 plus miles a day, and I love it. I don't know that it would be a good start and go vehicle unless you keep a block warmer on it during cool months. In mid 30's after 5-10 minutes of warm up I still baby it until it is up to temperature, but I...
Have pulled my 101 with one of my M1009s, but with only a few hundred pounds of lumber in it. I don't trust the bumper mounted hitch to pull much, or take the shock of a heavier trailer.
Like mentioned, rust is the biggest issue. There are things to look for on the electrical system, as well as the health of the engine and injector pump. Parts are easy to obtain, so if you have mechanical ability you can fix any thing. Check out all the M1009 threads and you will learn all sorts...
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I can't believe it would do what it says. If so, biodiesel makers would be doing it and saving themselves a lot of money.
I just glanced under my truck, which I have only had a week, and thought it was a Dana rear. Is it a 60? I assumed it had the 44 like the older half tons. I just didn't think they would have run a 60 in the front with a 10b rear.
It should be a Dana 44 in the front, and 10 bolt in rear. 1028 should have the Dana 60 front and 14 bolt in rear. I have owned both combinations in the past in civilian trucks. For my purposes the 10 bolts were fine, but I didn't rock crawl with them. You may want to put an axle brace on the 10...
I haven't lifted a MV yet, but my past experience with other Chevy trucks says 4" won't cause any problems. On a long bed chasis like the M1028, rear drive shaft will be no issue at all. Normally 6" lift is where some trucks will need attention to the front shaft angle, and sometimes length...
+1 for the small chevy oil pump. I used one to build a 110v pump using an old motor I had laying around. I have collected a couple hundred gallons so far.
I tagged one and started driving it. It's a fun little truck. Hopefully I can get over to see you guys for breakfast one day in it. I don't see why people bash the 6.2 about lack of power. It's a peppy truck, and has more get up and go then my Dodge pick up. When I make up my mind for sure which...
I'm going to make it to one of these some day. It's a bit of a hike, but now that I have a oh9 it won't be as intimidating as cruising over in a Deuce ;)
Happy dance time rofl. I found the problem with the trans. It was merely a cracked vacuum line. Took the truck around the block and all is well. Now I have two good runners. Keeping my fingers crossed that the next one is as well.
Yeah, it could have 141 on it. I know pictures can be deceiving, but it looked good and straight. It also had what looked like a new grey dash pad and matching civi console. That kinda leads me to believe it was being used by a NG unit, and that they may have taken good care of it. The ones I...
Two of them were from private sellers, and I made out real good on them. The GL one I bid too much on. I bid 2600, but by time I pay all fees, get it home, get it titled ect I will have close to 3500 invested if it doesn't need any repair. If I had come across the other two first I never would...
