I'm planning on keeping it as original as possible except for the swim gear, vane, and wheels. Those are going. Afaik the wheels can propel it in the water. The trim vane is tore up and will need to be blasted and welded/patched.
Arrived home today. I'm happy to report it drove...but has a bad head gasket. Brakes work. It is still very trashed on the inside and needs to get blasted all over with sand and repainted.
Needs new batteries. I'm removing all the swim gear and radios soon. It's simply too hot to work on it...
Need someone with a deuce or five ton and chains to be a backup plan in case the Brdm doesn't want to start. It runs and drives (has a bad head gasket) but in case it doesn't a secondary way to get it off the trailer would be nice. It's coming out on a removable goose neck.
Its coming Thursday...
Do the tail light units contain the brake and turn signals?
I'm needing to retrofit turn and brake lights onto another vehicle that doesn't have them and the humvee LED rear assemblies look like the ticket.
Anyone here familiar with the GAZ-562or SMD-21-08 Diesel engines? They're listed as having been put in during modernization programs but finding specs on them is hard. Nothing about dimensions or anything else can be found.
I'd just buy Earl Tucker's for 35 if he still has it. It apparently (i'm told) is in good shape. That will save you a lot of money. I should have spent the extra 20k and I'd be tooling around in my BRDM now vs waiting for it to get back from the restorer.
I spent 19k for mine then another 20k...
Stick with wheeled for your first. Spend the extra money up front to get a nice unit. Wait until you get more experience before dealing with tracks. My Brdm has been a pita so far and it's only got four wheels and can still be easy transported without over width.
You've done more in a few months than I have in almost a year.
Great job!
I need to look at upgrading my axles, too, since I'm upgrading the engine. BRDM axles are kinda soft.
There's an ot65 for sale up north. Looked real nice.
Spare are a pain. Look at my threads for info on how to do things and how not to do them.

The 6cyl is too big and would require modification of the firewall.
An engine like a 366 would bolt right in and only require modification to the front two motor mounts. If I bought one of those c60 dump trucks I'd have everything in one package for a transfer or I could go with a 4bt and get...
You did the same combo above (3.9 turbo w/ the Allison 1000)? Seems like a lot to be asking of a small engine. I drive a 2013 Tacoma and it has 240 hp w/ a 4.0l v6. The brdm2 is just under 16k pounds. Granted, it's still a little bit more powerful than the stock engine but not much. The gaz41...
Would a transmission like the Allison hd4060 be a good fit? Also, how are you handling the electronic part of adding a more complex engine and tran combo to the vehicle?
